We had a pleasant interview with Mrs. Gonca Ünal Kabaş, Business Development Manager of Interplast about the development of the company and products which serve to the sector.
Our business activities are not only limited to the Turkish market, we also serve our customers located in Balkan, Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa regions which are in the natural gravity of our export zone and on the ancient ‘’Silk Road.
Could you briefly tell our readers about yourself and your educational background?
After graduating from Middle East Technical University in 1993, I have obtained an MSc degree in chemistry from Istanbul Technical University and attended pharmacy&dermatology classes in Marmara University.
I have than worked in Dyo as R&D engineer and in Meges as R&D manager for several years mainly on variety of coating processes and technologies.
In 2012 I decided to take bold step into business development domain and joined Interplast team. Since then I’ve been with Interplast and helped establishing and leading Coating and Adhesives Division.
Could you tell us about the development of İnterplast from its foundation to this day?
Based in Istanbul, Interplast started business in 2004 in engineering plastic market. After joining forces with Safic-Alcan in 2011, Interplast extended the debt and breath of portfolio to cover Rubber, Coatings&Adhesives and Life Sciences verticals with 50+ principals from 20 different countries.
Interplast became 100% Safic –Alcan affiliate as of 2016. We are a team of 36 professionals who are dedicated and highly specialized in chemical raw materials sales and technical support.
In addition to our application laboratory, we carry majority of product lines in stock and are able to ship instantaneously out of 4 specialty warehouses and 1 bonded warehouse nearby Istanbul.
Paint İstanbul, PlastEurasia, HPCI are being the most recognized ones, we regularly attend relevant industrial fairs and events as exhibitors.
With headquarters in Puteaux, France and established in 1847, Safic –Alcan operates covering 50 different countries including China, India and the US. Safic –Alcan Group is one of the leading specialty chemicals distributor in Europe.
Could you tell us about your products, your target group and the industries that you serve in coating raw material sector?
Interplast Coating&Adhesives division founded in 2012. We currently represent the following blue-chip principals such as Evonik, Tronox, Blackburn, Arkema, Vencorex, Clariant, Momentive, BASF, Chemguard, Chitec, Cray Valley, PMC Organometallix, Labema, Nanocyl.
We offer and carry inventory for some industry standard-setter brand like silanes from Evonik (Dynasylan), TiO2 from Tronox, defoamers from Blackburn (Dispelair), organic peroxides from Arkema (Luperox), aliphatic isocyanates from Vencorex (Tolonate & Easaqua), pigments & pigments preparations from Clariant (Colanyl,

Do you have laboratory work?
Our application laboratories are a significant part of the service that we want to offer across our business network worldwide. Having laboratories in France, UK, Netherlands, Italy, Turkey and China gives us the flexibility to respond quickly to local demands.
This can include helping our customers in developing innovative applications while at the same time supporting our manufacturers in a deeper understanding of the properties of their raw materials and how they can work synergistically together.
Could you inform about your goals and future projects?
From its original trading activities in 1847, Safic-Alcan has evolved and diversified its business to follow the industrial changes and global market trends.
Our goal is to become the preferred partner and technical advisor of our customer, delivering innovative solutions. Instead of being a simple logistics organization, our ambition is to be the ‘right hand’ of our principals in the market.
