DSM Engineering Materials strengthens market-leading position in EV and E&E high-growth industries with production expansion in China.
DSM Engineering Materials has announced that its Jiangyin plant in Jiangsu Province, China, will expand its high-performance materials production capacity. The construction of a second compounding line began in February 2022 and is expected to be completed in 2023. The new line will assist DSM in meeting growing demand for high-performance polymers used in a variety of end-applications, including electric vehicles, electrics, and electronics, as well as driving the shift to a low-carbon, circular economy.
China’s demand for sustainable high-performance materials has risen in recent years as its living standards have risen and its environmental policies have become more ambitious. China’s specialty engineering materials industry continues to grow at a healthy rate, supplying the automotive, electrics, and electronics markets. This demand for high-performance specialty materials like Akulon® PA6/PA66, Arnite® PET/PBT, Arnitel® TPC, EcoPaXX® PA410, ForTii® PA4T/PPA, and Stanyl® PA46 will be met by the new state-of-the-art compounding line.
DSM’s commitment to shaping a better world for people and planet is reflected in the new facility’s strong sustainability credentials. The expansion project will not increase greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and will be powered entirely by renewable electricity, in addition to increasing production capacity for materials that enable sustainable solutions. This is in line with DSM Engineering Materials’ sustainability goals, which include halving global GHG emissions and launching bio- and/or recycled-based alternatives across the board by 2030. The Jiangyin site is already a leader in sustainable manufacturing, producing high-performance materials with self-generated solar power and sourced renewable electricity.
