Fall/Winter Color Trends

Fall/Winter Color Trends

It is a well-known fact that each color represents a distinct mindset and signifies a different value. Although color meanings might depend on culture, it can be said that some colors, especially primary ones, convey the same meaning and evoke similar feelings almost universally.

These kind of communicative properties of colors mostly arise from natural associations: Regardless of time or place, green has always been the color of vegetation and forests, as blue has been the color of the sky and water for human beings.

Even country flags are designed in a way that highlights certain colors, inspiring mostly from nature. For instance, red symbolizes power and sacrifice, and blue stands for liberation and determination.

White, which is the most widely used color in flags, represents peace and harmony. However, it should be also noted that culture and current trends play a significant role when it comes to ascribing certain meanings to colors, as well.

Getting inspiration from nature is a common way of choosing colors for interior design. Interior design trends are mostly created on the basis of seasons, which could be described as periods in a year distinguished by specific climate conditions and temperatures.

Therefore, the whole notion of seasonal color trends, in fact, derives from the phenomena of nature. As for the Fall/Winter color trends , a strict departure from the bright colors related to warm weather months can be observed.

This departure makes room for colors such as crimson, umber, eggplant and pumpkin, all of
which could be classified as the colors of fall. In fall, earth tones could be utilized to create a nature-friendly atmosphere.

By adding earth tones in the entry, and neutrals such as beiges and grays, reflecting the warmth of fall and arranging the tone for the rest of the house becomes much easier. A warm hue such as cinnamon can also bring warmth into many parts of the house.

If a big color change like painting the walls or going full tilt decorating is not desired, including a few earthtone pieces in varying shades may be an option. Just as bright, emerald, and leaf green colors are quite appropriate for summer, warm greens combine gorgeously with traditional fall colors.

By combining a warm mossy green with brown and rust, it is possible to create a dimensional, warm room with an added depth. Moreover, even though purple is known for being used mostly in spring/summer, a darker jewel tone of purple can be well suited for fall to complement the decoration of the room.

Lastly, using a dominant color, such as red, allows for a better transition of the lighter shades of the same hue from room to room and reflect the fall to winter transition in a perfect manner.

As mentioned above, each color evokes different feelings, and conveys certain messages, which is why many people choose to work with color consultancies to get help in decorating.

According to the most recent report published by the Pantone Color Institute™, colors for Fall/ Winter will mostly include super bright hues along with a few contrasting dark hues. This color choices represent people’s need to enjoy life and liberate themselves from
limitations in general. Dark hues, on the other hand, will help people to express their mood changes on any day.

Although this report is intended for the realm of fashion, it is safe to say that it can easily be adopted into interior design. In conclusion, color trends for Fall/Winter are more brightness-oriented and it has to do with the fact that consumers now want to move fluidly among different hues and show the joy of being alive.

Neutral colors and earth tones seem to be preferred a lot more compared to summer, as they reflect the warmth of fall and contain elements that remind us of this lovely season.
