In accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement, Perstorp will set science-based emission reduction goals

27 Nisan 2021

Perstorp Group has already committed to being Finite Material Neutral in order to become the number one sustainable solutions provider in prioritized markets. Now, the multinational chemical corporation has pledged to meet carbon mitigation goals in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement and the Science Based Targets initiative. Targets will be set for both direct and indirect emissions (according to the GHG protocol, scopes 1, 2, and 3) and estimated with expected future expansion and development in mind. In 2021, the aim is to apply for science-based goals.

“For direct greenhouse gas emissions, a challenge is to significantly reduce emissions from our production plants while growing our production. To reduce our indirect emissions, we need to intensify the transition from fossil raw materials to more sustainable, lower carbon footprint alternatives, and grow our Pro-Environment product portfolio. We are already committed to a sustainable transformation and working with Science Based Targets initiative enables us to be transparent in the process, and will ensure that our low-carbon transformation is aligned with climate science,” says Anna Berggren, VP Sustainability at Perstorp Group.

Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly defined pathway to future-proof growth by specifying how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The Science Based Targets initiative advocate science-based target setting as a powerful way of boosting companies’ competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy. It is a collaboration between Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

“The chemical industry, which is fundamental to almost all other industries and sectors, has an important role to play in reaching the goals set by the Paris Climate Agreement. As a business within the chemical industry we believe we can help enable a sustainable transition for all those other industries, sectors and products along our value chains, and we are committed to doing our part,” highlighted Jan Secher, President and CEO at Perstorp Group.
