Packaging from Renewable Resources

Packaging from Renewable Resources

TotalEnergies and Intraplás celebrate their collaboration on the commercialization of drop-in packaging solutions from renewable sources, using TotalEnergies RE:clic range.

Together, TotalEnergies and Intraplás are working to develop environmentally friendly packaging options that don’t sacrifice functionality or food safety. Utilizing TotalEnergies RE:newable polymer, a variety of the RE:clic portfolio, Intraplás is launching commercial products that significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the finished product.

For its drop-in RE:newable polymer line, TotalEnergies can take advantage of a direct access to renewable feedstock thanks to its world-class biorefinery in La Mède (France).

The resulting polymer is guaranteed by the mass balance-based International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS) scheme. The RE:newable range, which significantly lowers carbon emissions, thus demonstrates virgin-like qualities appropriate for high-end, demanding applications.

The technical and business know-how of Intraplás have been essential in introducing this innovation to the packaging market. Because the converter’s facilities are ISCC PLUS certified, which facilitates traceability from the production of the material through to the final application, Intraplás is able to offer its customers who require sustainable solutions for food packaging high-performing, low-carbon, fossil-free products.

“Our RE:newable range is essential in achieving TotalEnergies’ ambition to produce 30% circular polymers by 2030. Our leading position as an integrated player on the market enables TotalEnergies to provide its customers with low-carbon, drop-in polymers from renewable sources in industrial quantities.

This collaboration with our long-term partner Intraplás is another important milestone. Innovation is increasingly critical for companies to distinguish themselves in an increasingly competitive market,” said Olivier Greiner, Vice President, Polymers Europe & Orient at TotalEnergies.

“If innovating is essential to create value, the sustainability of an innovative product is the best basis for responding to socio-environmental challenges. It is our commitment to offer to the market more eco-friendly packaging solutions.

We are increasingly investing in the incorporation of materials from renewable sources without compromising food safety, consumer well-being and product performance. This collaboration with our partner TotalEnergies is in line with our goals to reduce our carbon footprint, and provide more sustainable packaging solutions to our customers, consumers and contribute to a better world,” said Marisa Alves, Chief Procurement Officer of Intraplás.
