Plastic Recycling Move by LyondellBasell

LyondellBasell has recently acquired a 50% stake in Stiphout Industries B.V. (“Stiphout”), a company focused on sourcing and processing post-consumer plastic packaging waste.

Stiphout operates a facility in Montfort, the Netherlands, with an annual processing capacity equivalent to the plastic packaging waste generated by over 500,000 Dutch citizens per year.

Yvonne van der Laan, LyondellBasell’s Executive Vice President for Circular and Low Carbon Solutions, explains the rationale behind the investment: “Investing in Stiphout aligns with our strategy to support recycling and plastic waste processing companies that complement our existing assets in the Netherlands and Germany, in line with our integrated hub model.

This collaboration allows us to capitalize on local synergies with our Quality Circular Polymers business in terms of logistics and operations. It also opens up opportunities to expand our CirculenRecover portfolio, offering solutions to customers and brand owners in their efforts to achieve circular and low-carbon targets.”

Stiphout, established in 2015, has accumulated expertise in transforming plastic household waste into clean flakes of recycled polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) materials, establishing itself as an innovative player in the Netherlands.

Eline Stiphout, founder and CEO of the Stiphout group, expresses enthusiasm for the partnership: “Teaming up with an experienced polymer producer will enable us to enhance the commercial and operational excellence of our operations. We are excited to collaborate with LyondellBasell, as we share the belief that circularity is essential in combating plastic waste.”
