One key example of such innovation is the development of a new production process for producing primary wax dispersions. Allinova has developed a process where similar products can be produced in a much cleverer way.

This led to improvements in the process itself like less energy and water consumption, as well as improvements in terms of the products like a higher and more evenly distributed molecular weight, decreased surfactant concentrations and less decolourisation.

The above picture shows the residual and color change of the Novaspers PE04 product to the competitor product and the OXPE Wax Emulsion product at 120 degrees for 2 hours and 600 degrees for 1 minute.

It is observed that Novaspers PE04 does not melt at 120 degrees and remains stable. At 600 degrees, it did not leave any residue unlike other products.

Because of the unique properties of these new products they found their way into the paint and coatings industry too, where the offer better durability compared with classic wax emulsions.

High Solids Ethylene Copolymer Dispersions

Common aqueous dispersions of Ethylene Copolymers like EAA and EMA often have technical limitations like a low solids-, but high co-monomer content and low molecular weight.

Allinova has introduced a next generation of products in co-operation with a major polymer producer that allow for products with much higher solids content and molecular weight, in combination with less co-monomer content.

This results in improved properties like better durability and a broader adhesion window towards non-polar substrates.

The Novaseal product range includes products that can have up to 45% active content and are completely free of surfactants, co-solvents and plasticizers. They are used in applications like:

• Heat seal coatings for flexible packaging materials,
• Transparent protective coatings in the electroplating industry (Galvano),
• Fibre-coupling in composites.
