The WELL-Treat® product range aims to enable solution partners to conduct safe operations in the Upstream field, reduce non-productive time (NPT) in the risky and costly drilling and well completion process, and provide process optimization and energy efficiency. The GREEN Chemicals® Upstream product portfolio and the principal products that constitute this portfolio are examined in this article.
In the oil and natural gas sector, all exploration, drilling and advanced production processes, including the extraction and production of reserves from underground, are termed "Upstream". All processes in which oil or natural gas is transported and stored through pipelines are called "Midstream", while the refining process in which hydrocarbons are converted into final products such as diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, asphalt and petroleum coke and into raw materials for the petrochemical sector is called "Downstream".
WELL-Treat® 1000 Drilling Chemicals Series
Drilling mud (drilling fluid) is used to maintain formation pressure under control during drilling, clear the wellbore of debris and fragments, cool and lubricate the drill bit and drill string, keep solids in suspension in the annulus in case of circulation loss, transmit the hydraulic power supplied from the surface to the bit, and assist in supporting the weight of the drill string with lifting force. Drilling fluids have a complex rheological and chemical structure and can be water-based, organic or air-based. In their evaluation, factors such as wellbore stability, shale inhibition, maximum drilling rate, leak prevention, non-contamination of the production zone, selection suitable for formation evaluation well log data acquisition, corrosive properties of the fluid and cost play a role. GREEN Chemicals® aims to provide wellbore stabilization through fluid loss preventives, rheology modifiers, viscosity builders, shale inhibitors and leak blockers in its WELL-Treat® 1000 product group, while aiming to provide maximum operational efficiency and operational safety through lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, biocides and foam makers/breakers and hydrogen sulfide scavengers. The hydrogen sulfide scavenger products, lubricants, biocides, corrosion inhibitors and dispersant products offered to the sector in the WELL-Treat® 1000 product group are entirely domestic products with synthesis conducted within GREEN Chemicals®. The objective of the cementing operation is to secure the casing pipe within the wellbore, provide isolation of the annulus between the casing and formation, protect the reserve section and protect the casing from corrosive fluids and external pressure effects. The cementing operation is critical both during and after the operation. Full bonding of the cement to the formation and casing, absence of voids and channels, and achievement of a certain strength are essential. This bond quality can be determined by cement bond log (CBL). Without a successful cementing operation, the wellbore is subject to fluid transfer between permeable formations, cannot be protected from external factors and wellbore stability cannot be provided. GREEN Chemicals® WELL-Treat® 2000 series cementing products developed by R&D specialists aim to be solution partners to oil and geothermal operator companies through cement setting delay/accelerator, fluid loss preventer, high temperature fluid loss preventer, friction reducer, foam breaker, gas blocking agent and cement spacer products. The WELL-Treat® group, designed on the basis of Turkey's geothermal sector requiring high operational temperature resistance (150°C and above), responds to this need. Wellbore stimulation is performed using two main methods: to initiate production in a newly completed production zone or to increase declining production volume in a producing zone. In matrix acidizing, the first of these methods, permeability damaged during drilling/cementing or production in the area near the drilling wellbore is recovered through acidizing. Depending on the formation type to be acidized, a concentrated hydrochloric acid solution or acid mixture is applied in stages together with inhibitors to reduce the corrosive effect of the acid and other chemicals needed for operational safety and efficiency. In hydraulic fracturing, the second method, deep fractures are created in low-permeability production formations using high-pressure fluid and these fractures are kept open with the help of proppant. GREEN Chemicals® provides solutions to oil and geothermal operators and service providers through high temperature acid corrosion inhibitors, inhibitor enhancers, iron scavengers, friction reducers, emulsifiers and scale and emulsion preventers in its WELL-Treat® 3000 product group. In acidizing operations using concentrated acid, the corrosive effect of the acid increases exponentially with temperature. The high temperature acid corrosion inhibitor developed by GREEN Chemicals® R&D specialists achieves highly successful results in geothermal operations with process temperatures above 150°C, keeping the corrosion rate below the literature-acceptable limit of 0.05 lb/ft2.
