Chemical Sector Achieves Record Exports in April
Chemical Sector Achieved Record Exports in April
The Istanbul Chemical Manufacturers and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB) shared April export data. According to the figures, the chemical sector achieved record exports in April.
İKMİB data shows that the chemical sector recorded USD 3.32 billion in exports in April. The chemical sector, which rose to the leading position in March, maintained its position in April and became the sector with the highest exports. According to the announced figures, the sector's April exports grew 53% compared to the same period last year. Based on the first four months of this year, total exports increased 48% and reached USD 10.8 billion.
Chemical Sector Led Exports for Two Consecutive Months
Adil Pelister, Chair of the İKMİB Board of Directors, evaluated the chemical sector's April export figures. Pelister stated: "Our export performance as the chemical sector continues to improve. We have been the leading export sector for two consecutive months. With USD 3.3 billion achieved in April, we set a new monthly export record. While our April exports increased 53%, our first four-month exports rose 45%, reaching USD 10.8 billion. In April, we primarily exported mineral fuels, mineral oils and products, plastics and plastic articles, and inorganic chemicals. Our top three export destinations were the Netherlands, the United States, and the Republic of South Africa. With this performance level, we believe we will easily exceed our year-end target of USD 28 billion.""Our Goal is to Permanently Achieve Sectoral Leadership by 2030"
Pelister also addressed the Russia-Ukraine crisis: "On the other hand, the Russia-Ukraine crisis is pressuring commodity and energy prices, indicating that rising prices will continue this way for a long time. Additionally, global inflationary pressure is also an important factor affecting us. Despite these challenging conditions, our exporters are trying to capitalize on opportunities as the European Union and the United States seek alternative suppliers. The ability of Turkish products to meet increased demand in these target markets is reflected in our export figures. As İKMİB, with the Chemical Technology Center (KTM) that we plan to operationalize by year-end, we aim to produce higher value-added products and raise our companies to a more competitive position. Our goal is to permanently achieve sectoral leadership in 2030, increase our total sectoral exports to over USD 50 billion, and raise our unit kilogram export value to over USD 1.5."The Netherlands Was the Top Export Destination
The Netherlands was the top export destination in April, with exports to the Netherlands increasing 97.51% compared to the same period last year, reaching USD 258 million 389 thousand. The Netherlands was followed by the United States, the Republic of South Africa, Romania, Italy, Germany, Spain, Iraq, Egypt, and the United Kingdom. The country with the highest export growth was South Africa with 2,044.75%. The top five product groups exported to the Netherlands were, respectively, "mineral fuels, mineral oils and products," "organic chemicals," "plastics and plastic articles," "inorganic chemicals," and "essential oils, cosmetics and soap."April Organic Chemical Exports Growth Reached 147.71%
