Merck, one of the world's oldest science and technology companies, is celebrating its 350th anniversary. The celebrations, which include participation from employees on a global scale, will also feature science conferences.
Merck Group, among the world's oldest science and technology companies, is celebrating its 350th anniversary. Merck is celebrating the milestone with its customers, partners and employees, with the theme of the celebrations set as "Past, present and future".
Founded in 1668 with a small pharmacy established by pharmacist Friedrich Jacob Merck in Germany, Merck has today become a global science, pharmaceutical and technology company.
In a message issued on the occasion of the 350th anniversary, Merck Board Chairman and CEO Stefan Oschman said, "350 years represent an incredible past, particularly when considering the progress made in the scientific world since our foundation.
We take pride in Merck's substantial contributions to research and development activities. Our scientific curiosity will always continue and we will continue to contribute to the advancement and progress of science," he said.
Stefan Oschman noted that they are fighting against cancer and other serious diseases and support other pharmaceutical companies' research in this direction. Oschman highlighted that they have developed advanced technological materials related to autonomous driving or foldable screens, for example.
Stating that they carry out all this in close cooperation with the world's best researchers, CEO Stefan Oschman said, "For this reason, we eagerly await achieving the best results from our research that will add positive value to human life and celebrating our 350 years of success with happiness and pride".
New Innovation Centre to Open
One of the most important events within the framework of the 350th anniversary celebrations is the conference titled "Curious 2018-Future Insight" to be held in July in Darmstadt, Germany. The conference will be attended by 35 scientists, including 5 Nobel Prize winners. Another global event will also take place at the company's headquarters in Darmstadt.
Approximately 900 guests from business and political circles worldwide are expected to be invited to the ceremony. Regional ceremonies will be held in Shanghai, China in June and in Boston, USA in October.
Furthermore, the official opening of Merck's new Innovation Centre will take place as part of the ceremony in Europe. The new building, constructed in the heart of Merck's headquarters, will serve young entrepreneurs wishing to work on innovative projects.
