Abdi İbrahim signed the Recover Better declaration, launched by the Science Based Targets Initiative and the United Nations, to ensure continued positive progress on climate change during the COVID-19 pandemic response. Leading its sector in sustainability by consistently prioritizing leaving a positive legacy for society and the world, Abdi İbrahim became the first Turkish company to endorse this declaration. The Recover Better declaration calls on governments worldwide to align COVID-19 economic relief and recovery measures with the latest climate science data. Abdi İbrahim, a signatory to the Science Based Targets Initiative, lent its support to this declaration. The "Recover Better" declaration, prepared through the collaboration of 155 companies with a combined market value exceeding USD 2.4 trillion and employing over 5 million people, demands that scientific principles be the foundation for public spending within economic support packages implemented globally during the pandemic response. The declaration seeks to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, focus on limiting global warming to 1.5°C, and integrate sustainability into decision-making processes at every level of public policy. Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül, Director of Public Affairs and Corporate Communications at Abdi İbrahim, shared his views on the matter. Noting that the entire world has gone through a difficult period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bülbül stated: "As a result of the measures taken during this process, we are witnessing significant recovery in nature due to reduced human mobility. It is possible to say that this challenging period, from which states, institutions and individuals have drawn important lessons, has had a positive impact on climate change. In the process ahead, the measures taken to ensure this improvement must be sustained through conscious effort rather than as a result of pandemics or global disasters," he said. Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül concluded his remarks: "As Abdi İbrahim, we believe we have a major responsibility in the fight against climate change. We continue to demonstrate our commitment to making sustainability, whose importance was underscored once again during the COVID-19 pandemic, an integral part of our business.
Recognizing that human health is dependent on the health of our planet, we continue to be part of the solution in improving our world and future.
Being the sole Turkish company signatory to the Science Based Targets Initiative and the Recover Better declaration launched by the United Nations is a source of great pride for us. We hope this will serve as an example for our sector." On the path to improving the "future" and the "world," Abdi İbrahim took an important step recently. Abdi İbrahim was among the signatories of the CEO Water Mandate, a United Nations Global Compact initiative, to support sustainable water policies and practices through a global commitment. In addition, Abdi İbrahim is among the signatories of the "Business Plastics Initiative" implemented in partnership with Global Compact Turkey, Business and Sustainable Development Association (SKD Turkey) and TÜSİAD. Additionally, membership in prestigious global sustainability initiatives such as CDP and RE100, and obtaining "B Corp Certification" in the medium term, are among Abdi İbrahim's important targets in this field. In 2020, Abdi İbrahim began sourcing all electricity consumption at its production facilities from renewable energy sources. The company plans to gradually extend this practice, initially launched in production, to all processes ranging from supply and logistics to raw material procurement, marketing and sales, and finally to the end consumer. Within this scope, Abdi İbrahim aims to reduce its carbon footprint to zero by 2030.
