Garanti BBVA Returns from GBM Awards 2026 with Three International Awards

Garanti BBVA was honored with three awards under the Global Banking & Markets (GBM) Awards 2026 for its work in sustainable financing and project financing. The bank received the "Sustainable Finance House of the Year," "Infrastructure and Project Finance House of the Year," and "Sustainable Finance Deal of the Year" awards for the Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Türkiye region.

Positioning sustainability at the center of its business strategy, Garanti BBVA aims to respond to the transformation needs of companies and projects by developing different models for financing sustainable transformation. With its expertise in project finance, the bank supports the realization of strategic infrastructure and energy investments, access to long-term financing resources, and the coming together of different financial institutions in joint financing structures.

Garanti BBVA Deputy CEO Sinem Edige, in her assessment of the three awards won, drew attention to the place of sustainability and project finance in the bank's long-term value creation approach.

Strong international performance in infrastructure and project finance

Garanti BBVA won the "Infrastructure and Project Finance House of the Year" award thanks to its active role in Türkiye's strategic infrastructure investments and the financing solutions it has developed.

The bank served as joint and inter-project creditor agent for the EUR 1.23 billion financing of the 127-kilometer Kınalı-Malkara Highway Project, as credit agent in various export credit agency (ECA) tranches, and as sustainability coordinator. In the transaction, which brought together international and Turkish commercial banks, export credit agencies, and Islamic finance providers under common terms, financing commitments of approximately twice the required amount were secured.

The Kınalı-Malkara financing, together with the EUR 3.4 billion refinancing of the Malkara-Çanakkale Highway, was honored with the "Global Banking & Markets Deal of the Year" award.

Garanti BBVA also served as mandated lead arranger bank and sustainability coordinator in the EUR 1.7 billion, 14-year financing of the Antalya-Alanya Highway. The transaction won the "Infrastructure Finance Deal of the Year" award.

In addition to this investment, which brought together 14 domestic and international financial institutions, the bank also played a role in the USD 160 million financing for the transfer of operating rights and redevelopment of Kalamış Marina, and in the EUR 100 million refinancing of İzmir Optimum AVM. In this way, it demonstrated its project finance expertise across the transportation, energy, maritime, and commercial real estate sectors.

International award for energy infrastructure financing

The TRY 9.9 billion financing provided to Uludağ Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. by a consortium of banks that included Garanti BBVA was honored with the "Local-Currency Loan Deal of the Year" award under GBM Awards 2026.

The 7.5-year financing, provided by a consortium of five banks, supports Uludağ Elektrik Dağıtım's mandatory infrastructure investments for the 2026-2027 period. Aiming to modernize the electricity distribution network serving more than 4 million subscribers in the Southern Marmara region, increase capacity, and strengthen supply security, the financing contributes to the development of energy infrastructure.

Financing supporting a clean and just transition

One of Garanti BBVA's award-winning transactions, the multi-tranche Clean and Just Transition Themed Syndicated Loan worth USD 225.25 million and EUR 65.5 million, won the "Sustainable Finance Deal of the Year" award. The transaction, carried out in June 2026, brought together 32 banks from 15 countries.

The transaction demonstrated the importance of bringing together international banking networks and different financing sources in the financing of sustainable transformation. Garanti BBVA aims to direct the financing not only toward investments that support a just transition to a low-carbon economy, but also toward areas that can contribute to strengthening employment, social inclusion, skills development, and access to economic opportunities.
