Awareness Initiative from Koroplast for a Livable World Koroplast, the first choice in Turkey when it comes to garbage bags and kitchen accessories, has crowned the social responsibility initiatives it has supported since its establishment with the motto "A Livable World, Together It's Easy" within the scope of its 40th anniversary last year. In this context, within the framework of "waste collection activities at 40 different locations," it brought to life the "Girl Who Whispers to Birds" story book, which emphasizes the importance of recycling to children and instills environmental awareness. Since its establishment, Koroplast has supported numerous social responsibility initiatives in environmental cleanup and waste collection. In particular, to convey that the majority of household waste is not "trash" as commonly believed, Koroplast launched a "waste collection movement at 40 different locations." Together with NGOs, municipalities and volunteers, using a total of 18,257 "Koroplast Recycling Bags" produced from 80 percent recycled materials and recyclable again, 8,000 kg of waste was collected and sorted from many provinces of Turkey within 2 months and handed over to the relevant municipalities' recycling facilities for reprocessing. Koroplast, by recycling the collected waste, brought to life the special "Girl Who Whispers to Birds" story book for children. Written by Sara Şahinkanat, one of Turkey's most renowned children's authors, in an educational, instructive and enjoyable manner, and illustrated by Hüseyin Sönmezay, the "Girl Who Whispers to Birds" book emphasizes environmental awareness and the importance of recycling; it is narrated through a character named Kora, showing that waste that could harm nature and the environment can be recycled and reused.
Accessing the Book Is Very Easy
To reach more children, the "Girl Who Whispers to Birds" story book has also been digitally designed, animated and can be listened to by a narrator. To access it, click here. At the launch of the "Girl Who Whispers to Birds" story book, Gülsün Mersin, Marketing Director at Koroplast, spoke about the company's corporate social responsibility initiatives: "Since the day we were founded, we have always prioritized being responsible, transparent and ethical. We never forgot our responsibility to society, nature and the environment. We aimed to ensure that each social responsibility initiative we carried out was long-term in nature. At the same time, we supported all volunteers and NGOs in projects and initiatives themed around sustainability, environmental cleanup, nature conservation and recycling. Saying "A Livable World, Together It's Easy," with the "Girl Who Whispers to Birds" story book, we aim to raise awareness among all segments of society, particularly children, and to instill recycling habits in consumers. The 1,000 copies of our printed book's outer cover was made from special plastic produced from the recycling of waste collected within the scope of the "waste collection movement at 40 different locations," and its pages were also produced from recycled paper," he said.
