SEKAY Provides Major Economic Boost SEKAY, implemented by Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, has generated 179 million 207 thousand kilowatts of electrical energy since its establishment, meeting the daily electricity consumption of 110 thousand people and contributing to the economy. Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality continues to generate electrical energy from waste through the SEKAY project, implemented for waste disposal. The Sakarya Integrated Solid Waste Facility, built to leave a greener world for future generations, minimize the negative impacts caused by consumption culture, and free the country from energy dependence amid the global energy shortage, has generated 179 million 207 thousand kilowatts of electrical energy for the economy to date. Additionally, glass, metal, paper and plastic waste are separated and returned to consumption as raw materials for secondary use. Every piece of waste placed in garbage bins found on Sakarya's streets comes to this facility and becomes part of recycling. Through the Integrated Solid Waste Facility implemented within the framework of the zero-waste project, electricity is generated on one hand while raw materials returned to the production cycle increase the city's value creation on the other. Furthermore, an average of 110 tons of medical waste per month is collected in one section of the facility and sterilized. After sterilization, medical waste rendered harmless is stored in a regular landfill and becomes part of recycling and energy production. Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, operating with a human-centered approach and recognized as one of the country's exemplary municipalities in environmental projects, generates 179 million 207 thousand kilowatts of electrical energy from waste through the SEKAY project with a production capacity of 14.04 MW/h, meeting the daily electrical energy consumption of 110 thousand people.
