Toros Tarım Named Turkey's Chemical Fertilizer Export Champion for 2017
Toros Tarım became the institution that exported the most chemical fertilizer in 2017 and received its award. At an event organized by the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), which represents over 10,000 exporting companies in different sub-sectors of chemicals, Hakan Göral, General Manager of Toros Tarım, who received the award "2017 Fertilizer Export No. 1" on behalf of Toros Tarım, said, "2017 was the year Toros Tarım reached the highest export figure in its history. The meaning of this award for us is very significant."
Commenting on the matter, Toros Tarım General Manager Hakan Göral said, "This award is meaningful in several respects; first, following the ban on nitrated fertilizer in 2016, in an environment where one of our plants only produces nitrated fertilizer, if we could not have made these exports due to low domestic demand, we would have had to either close our plant or downsize it.
Therefore, the export figures we achieved represented a major success for the sustainability and continuous operation of our plant in Mersin. Second, from our country's perspective, contributing to Turkey's foreign currency needs and representing our country in the fertilizer sector is a great source of pride." He also stated that in 2017, they exported to a very broad geography.
Serving from Europe to Russia, from the Middle East to Africa
Emphasizing that they exported to a very broad geography in 2017, Toros Tarım General Manager Hakan Göral said, "We supply products to Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Ukraine, Russia, the Middle East, Israel, North and Central East Africa.
The secret to our ability to serve a distant geography such as Central and East Africa can be attributed both to the quality work performed by Tekfen Construction, another company within Tekfen Holding, in those countries and the ability of our other business partners to serve as references to us, as well as the quality of our products," he noted.
Sharing his views on 2018, Toros Tarım General Manager Hakan Göral said, "The nitrated fertilizer ban that began in the second half of 2016 taught us that sustainable growth based on a single market is difficult and that we must certainly diversify our markets and even our currencies to a certain extent.
Based on this lesson, in 2018 we are planning to allocate a portion of our production to export markets at figures similar to those in 2017. As of 2017, our exports accounted for 15% of our total production," he said.
