To date, the domestic and technology-based social enterprise Fazla Gıda has rescued approximately TRY 200 million worth of food waste and reached approximately 1 million 100 thousand people in need through the Food Rescue Association (GKTD). In 2021, through new partnerships, the company plans to increase the number of people reached to 1 million 800 thousand. Fazla Gıda aims for threefold growth in 2021 and to rescue TRY 600 million worth of food waste. Globally, USD 1.3 trillion worth of food is thrown away each year. In Turkey, this figure is approximately TRY 300 billion annually. While 1.9 billion people worldwide lack access to adequate nutrition, approximately 800 million people struggle with hunger.

The social enterprise Fazla Gıda, established to develop technology-based solutions to reduce food waste in the food supply chain by 50 percent by 2030, has rescued 16 thousand tonnes of food to date and prevented 53 thousand tonnes of carbon emissions.

Through the Food Rescue Association (GKTD), Fazla Gıda has reached a total of approximately 1 million 100 thousand people in need. With new partnerships and food bank infrastructure development work in 2021, the company plans to increase this figure to 1 million 800 thousand.

"We aim to grow with 100 business partners in 2021"

Fazla Gıda Co-founder Olcay Silahlı, stating that Turkey's annual TRY 300 billion food waste represents not only a financial loss but also an environmental and social loss, said: "As Fazla Gıda, the total food value we have touched to date is approximately TRY 200 million. We rescued a total of 30 million meals. By implementing the Food Recovery Hierarchy, we continue to add value with our current 41 business partners, and we aim to grow with 100 business partners in 2021. On a daily basis, we coordinate food rescue activities in 36 cities, but we have operational capability in all 81 provinces. In 2021, we will begin serving different stakeholders in the food supply chain with new solutions and value propositions."
