LANXESS Enhances LewaPlus Software

LANXESS has added a new function to its LewaPlus software for the food industry. This enables the sizing of ion exchange systems, including a range of special process configurations that can be best achieved with Lewatit types specifically developed for food applications. This additional function, which covers the calculation of demineralization systems for regularly updatable and ready-to-use aqueous gelatin and collagen solutions, is fully integrated into the software's food module. LewaPlus, launched over a decade ago, is a comprehensive tool that supports the planning and design of industrial water treatment facilities with ion exchange and membrane systems. Dr. Nadja Hermsdorf, Technical Marketing Manager at LANXESS Liquid Purification Technologies (LPT), stated: "Lewatit users can now monitor the performance of existing gelatin and collagen demineralization systems in a user-friendly and practical manner and design new systems. LewaPlus helps our customers with increasingly important topics such as reducing waste, chemicals and water consumption." LewaPlus is the first software designed to enable the industrial processing of aqueous gelatin and collagen solutions. With the new module, it is now possible for the first time to calculate the required quantities of water and chemicals by allowing each step to be sized specifically. The software includes a cost calculation tool for determining investment and operating costs of a production facility processing gelatin and collagen solutions. System installation and ion exchanger resin purchase costs are included in investment costs. Operating costs include expenses related to regeneration, water consumption and wastewater disposal. The cost estimation feature helps users calculate expenses over the system's planned total service life. Source
