Process Equipment Control Using Artificial Intelligence at SOCAR SOCAR Türkiye R&D, in collaboration with Berlin Technical University and Gebze Technical University, has developed artificial intelligence-based algorithms to be used for process equipment efficiency and proper operation. SOCAR Türkiye's subsidiary SOCAR Türkiye R&D and Innovation Inc. has initiated industrial unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) supported activities in collaboration with Berlin Technical University and Gebze Technical University. SOCAR Türkiye R&D, which aims to drive sector innovation and develop innovative solutions with cutting-edge technology and applications for today's changing business world, will use its developed artificial intelligence-based algorithms to identify the degree of corrosion occurring in process equipment and minimize wear allowances. The work initiated in collaboration with Berlin Technical University and Gebze Technical University will enable process equipment labeling to be performed using artificial intelligence with UAV-assisted imagery and allow their use in effective decision management. This will enable planned and unplanned maintenance operations to be conducted more efficiently.

Potential workplace accidents will also be prevented

Data obtained through the multispectral camera and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) on the UAV will be processed using algorithms developed by the company to detect subsurface corrosion and wear. Additionally, inspections in difficult-to-reach and risky areas of process equipment will identify faulty and hazardous sections of equipment, preventing potential workplace accidents. At the same time, energy losses in operations and inspections in stack areas will help prevent fires. High-resolution cameras and LIDAR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) technology on the UAV will enable extraction of scaled orthophotos and three-dimensional reality models of existing facilities, assisting in making accurate and agile decisions during investment project planning and construction phases. Furthermore, through algorithms developed by the company, personnel acting in violation of occupational health and safety regulations can be identified during routine inspections. Additionally, the "SmartXFly" UAV-supported technical inspection service developed by SOCAR Türkiye R&D will provide diagnostic and predictive maintenance services to both SOCAR Türkiye group companies and the sector.
