Karadeniz Holding and Siemens Türkiye Sign Strategic Cooperation in Energy Infrastructure
Karadeniz Holding and Siemens Türkiye signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to evaluate future cooperation opportunities in smart infrastructure, electrification and automation. The two companies also signed a separate cooperation agreement covering medium-voltage distribution and generator circuit breaker solutions for power generation infrastructure. Under the project, it is planned to supply 48 HB3 Generator Circuit Breaker (GCB) panels and 795 NXAIR50 medium-voltage panels.

Siemens AG Smart Infrastructure Electrification and Automation President Stephan May, Karadeniz Holding Chairman of the Board Osman Karadeniz and Siemens Türkiye Chairman of the Board Hüseyin Gelis attended the signing ceremony.

The signed memorandum of understanding covers information sharing and the evaluation of opportunities for joint work on possible projects in the areas of SCADA systems, digitalization, the Internet of Things (IoT), automation solutions, medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, and energy storage. The agreement aims to establish a framework for new cooperation opportunities that will bring together Karadeniz Holding’s global energy operations with Siemens Türkiye’s engineering and technology capabilities.

Continuing its investments in line with the increase in global energy demand, Karadeniz Holding aims to support reliability and operational continuity in its power generation activities across different geographies. The cooperation carried out with Siemens Türkiye envisages not only meeting the needs of the existing power generation infrastructure but also developing a standardized and scalable technology infrastructure that can be used in future projects as well.

Reliable infrastructure against high short-circuit levels
Within the scope of the project for power generation infrastructure, Siemens Türkiye will supply 48 HB3 Generator Circuit Breaker panels and 795 NXAIR50 medium-voltage panels. The solutions will support the safe management of high short-circuit levels and the reliable operation of the power generation infrastructure.

The HB3 Generator Circuit Breaker panels will be used for the safe switching of generator outputs and for interrupting the high DC-component currents required in generator applications. The NXAIR50 medium-voltage panels, with a rated current of 4,000 A and a short-circuit withstand capacity of 50 kA, will contribute to establishing a reliable distribution infrastructure under high short-circuit conditions.

The vacuum circuit breaker technology used in both solutions will support the management of operation and maintenance costs thanks to its high breaking capacity and maintenance-free structure. The ability of the HB3 and NXAIR50 products to operate at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz frequencies will allow them to adapt to different grid conditions.

Solutions adaptable to future energy projects
The project aims to create a standard, scalable and sustainable solution infrastructure that can be used not only to meet Karadeniz Holding’s current investment needs but also in future energy projects. Siemens Türkiye’s engineering expertise and long-term service approach are expected to support the adaptation of the developed solutions to projects in different geographies.

The cooperation also aims to establish a grid infrastructure with up-to-date technology compliant with international standards, at a more favorable initial investment cost compared to traditional grid solutions.

Within the scope of the project, deliveries of the NXAIR50 medium-voltage panels and generator circuit breaker panels are planned to begin in early 2027, with the delivery process expected to continue until the end of 2029.

Long-term cooperation in energy infrastructure
Siemens Türkiye Chairman of the Board Hüseyin Gelis, in his assessment of the cooperation, drew attention to the importance of reliable technology infrastructures that will support energy investments in different geographies.

Gelis stated the following:

“With this cooperation we have carried out with Karadeniz Holding, we are contributing to the establishment of a reliable technology infrastructure that will support energy investments in different geographies. The memorandum of understanding we signed provides us with a framework for evaluating future cooperation opportunities particularly in smart infrastructure, electrification and automation, as well as in digitalization, SCADA, IoT and energy storage. As Siemens, we are pleased to bring together our engineering expertise, product technology and long-term service approach with Karadeniz Holding’s global energy experience. We believe this step will support the development of standard and scalable solutions that can be adapted to future projects as well as meeting current needs.”

Karadeniz Holding Chairman of the Board Osman Murat Karadeniz, for his part, stated that the technological transformation in the energy sector is increasing the need for solutions that can adapt to changing requirements in different geographies.

Karadeniz included the following remarks in his assessment:

“The technological transformation in the energy sector is making solutions that can adapt to changing needs in the different geographies in which we operate even more important. We see this step we have taken with Siemens Türkiye as the foundation of a long-term cooperation that will support our global energy operations and contribute to our future investments as well. With our memorandum of understanding, we aim to share information and jointly evaluate new project opportunities in various technical fields, particularly smart infrastructure, electrification and automation. We believe that bringing together Karadeniz Holding’s global energy experience with Siemens’ engineering and technology capabilities will support our goals of reliability and operational continuity.”
