Avery Dennison and Dow Launch Hotmelt Label Adhesive

Avery Dennison and Dow Launch Hotmelt Label Adhesive Dow (NYSE: DOW) and Avery Dennison have jointly developed an innovative and sustainable hotmelt label adhesive solution that enables mechanical recycling of polyolefin film labels and polypropylene (PP)/polyethylene (PE) packaging in a single stream. Hotmelt adhesives are highly effective for labels used in chilled applications such as food labeling. However, when it comes to recycled PP/PE material, conventional hotmelt adhesives can reduce the usability of this material. Because this new olefinic hotmelt is based on the same chemical structure as PP/PE packaging, when combined with a polyolefin face stock, the label and packaging can be processed as a single material and recycled together. This delivers superior recyclability compared to conventional hotmelt adhesives while maintaining high hotmelt performance. The development of the new adhesive was supported by Avery Dennison's recycling strategy and Dow's polymer science expertise. The product is based on Dow's AFFINITY™ GA Polymers and is sold by Avery Dennison in the Europe, Middle East, North Africa (EMENA) region under the name CF3050.
