Compact and Flexible Gas Scrubbing Systems
Compact gas scrubbing systems are used to extract and clean waste gases. They are designed to absorb harmful substances, cool gases, condense vapours and separate dust. Additionally, they are also used for recovery of valuable materials and production of chemical products.

Compact gas scrubbing systems consist of a spray gas cleaner and an absorption column in the flow direction. Spray gas cleaners operate according to the injector principle; they do not create a pressure drop in the gas flow, but rather provide a pressure increase. As a rule, a compact gas scrubbing system does not require a mechanical fan to draw and transport gases. • Self-aspirating, fan-free, • Wide load range, good partial load behaviour, • Insensitive to contamination, • High operational safety.Standard Design CompactGas Scrubbing Systems
GEA designs compact gas scrubbing systems for gas flows between 1 and 2,000 m³/hour. The cleaner is made of polypropylene (PP) and is therefore resistant to alkaline solutions, acids and acidic and alkaline waste gases at approximately 80°C. Standard design can be modified according to requirements and adapted to the given operating conditions. For example, a cooling system can be added to the spray gas cleaner in the first stage, or the packed column can be replaced with an aerosol separator. All compact gas scrubbing systems can be supplied in various materials to suit different applications. For use in areas with explosion hazard, gas cleaners can be made from electrically conductive materials.Application Examples: Corrosion-Resistant Compact GasScrubbing Systems for Solvents
Various solvents such as toluene, methylene chloride, benzene, and situations such as the presence of chlorine in waste gases require special material selection. Based on GEA's standard compact gas scrubbing system series, a two-stage gas scrubbing system made of stainless steel/ECTFE, steel/PTFE and titanium has been designed. Mobile Compact Gas Scrubbing System for ATEX zone 1 according to customer requirements; gas scrubbing systems; must be mobile, installable in confined spaces and capable of absorbing up to 60 Nm³/hour (approximately 98 kg/hour) of pure HCl gas. This application also presents high explosion protection requirements (ATEX Zone 1) and extreme load fluctuations. For this application, GEA developed a two-stage mobile unit based on its standard compact gas scrubbing series. The entire unit is designed for use in Ex-zone 1. Figure 5. This gas scrubbing system is specially designed for absorption and cooling as well as separation of soluble solid or liquid/acid aerosols. It is suitable for gas flow rates of 5-150 m³/hour. It operates without pressure loss thanks to the spray gas cleaner. As a special equipment option, gas recirculation is available to reduce inlet pressure. Material: Normally Polypropylene (PP) or Polyethylene (PE), but in this special application, electrically conductive PE-EL material. Figure 6.
