Forge Nano and TexPower Collaborate Forge Nano and TexPower are collaborating under a recently awarded SBIR Phase I contract to further develop TexPower's cobalt-free, nickel-based ultra-high-energy cathode powders with Forge Nano's low-cost material modification nanotechnology. Initial test results show >230 mAh/g, which translates to a 25% increase in energy density for electric vehicles compared to existing battery materials and a 10% reduction in battery costs. TexPower CEO Dr. Evan Erickson said, "The precision and versatility of Forge Nano's advanced coating technologies are advancing TexPower's cobalt-free, ultra-high-energy cathode powders. We look forward to the improved performance and safety benefits that atomic layer deposition will bring to our commercial materials. The TexPower-ForgeNano partnership will help bring TexPower cathodes rapidly to the growing EV market and beyond." Forge Nano CEO Dr. Paul Lichty said, "We are extremely impressed with TexPower's cathode materials. Over the past few years we have tested more than 50 cathode materials from global Fortune 500 companies and startups, and TexPower's energy density is unmatched. We are even more excited that our proprietary atomic layer deposition coatings will provide the cycle life necessary for these US-made materials to enter commercial use in the near future. This collaboration is yet another example of our relentless efforts to develop the best battery materials locally and globally to provide lower-cost electric vehicles, consumer products, and energy storage systems." The SBIR contract titled 'Taming Ultra-High Energy Cathodes with Stabilizing Coatings: Utilizing Atomic Layer Deposition for the Deployment of High-Nickel, Cobalt-Free Cathodes in Electric Vehicles' awards USD 206,500 to the TexPower/ForgeNano team to advance the state-of-the-art in battery chemistry. Led by Dr. Ryan Pekarek, this project will see TexPower enhance the stability of cobalt-free, ultra-high-energy cathode materials using coatings deposited via atomic layer deposition (ALD). TexPower is building a broad portfolio by exploring various ALD coating chemistries to understand how ALD coatings interact with TexPower's new class of cathode materials. Upon completion of this project, TexPower will identify a product line of ALD-coated cathode materials that it will scale and commercialize. Initial results from the collaboration show that ALD improved TexPower's cycle life in full cells by 30% and simultaneously reduced cell resistance by at least 5-fold over the life of the cell. From energy storage materials to pharmaceutical research, Forge Nano's ALD platform makes products better at the atomic level. Forge Nano's suite of ALD technologies can be incorporated in a wide range of products, from Li-ion batteries to highly reliable electronic devices, vaccines, and more.
