H.B. Fuller Receives Food Safety System Certification at Germany Plant
H.B. Fuller (NYSE: FUL) has successfully completed Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000) for its manufacturing facility in Lüneburg, Germany, a major production site in its global network and the largest in Europe, qualifying it to hold this key certification.
FSSC 22000 is an industry standard recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an Action Coalition from the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), which brings together many of the world's leading consumer goods companies to oversee food safety standards for operations and help ensure safe food for all. It is recognized for food packaging suppliers.
Latest figures from GFSI show that approximately 600 million people worldwide become ill each year after consuming contaminated food, and concerns about food hygiene have been intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. H.B. Fuller manufactures and supplies adhesives used in packaging production for many essential food and beverage products, many of which were required during the pandemic.
Dietrich Crail, Senior Vice President of HBX Europe and Global Hard Packaging, states: "In recent years, the Lüneburg facility has undergone an expansion and capacity upgrade journey to better serve customers in key segments such as packaging, converting, beverage labeling and hygiene, among other sectors."
"Many of our developments and programs in the packaging and labeling markets are dedicated to working closely with customers, suppliers and other key partners to improve food packaging safety across our operations and products, and this third-party assessment such as FSSC 22000 is an important step in demonstrating the safety and security of our adhesives in consumer food and beverage packaging. Our goal is to use what we have learned from this process to build a global network of GFSI-certified manufacturing facilities."
FSSC 22000 certification has been issued by an accredited third party, and H.B. Fuller's more comprehensive food and beverage product lines in Lüneburg such as Advantra®, Advantra® BOLDTM, ClarityTM, Swift®Therm, Swift®Melt and Lunatack® meet the requirements of global industry food safety standards according to GFSI.
