Hempel launches high-efficiency, versatile anti-fouling coating
Hempel has launched Globic 7000, a new antifouling coating developed for all ship types that offers operational flexibility and an average speed loss level of 4.5%* (according to ISO 19030).
These features help ship owners and operators achieve significant fuel cost savings and reduce related emissions.
Specially designed to provide effective protection for up to 60 months, Globic 7000 contains an optimized biocide blend to provide protection against both hard and soft fouling.
With improved performance against mud and algae, Globic 7000 is suitable for a wide range of operating conditions, including low-speed steaming and extended idle periods.
Globic 7000 is built on proven Globic technology, which has been applied to more than 10,000 vessels since its launch by Hempel in 2002, thus ensuring smooth, effective biocide release and a clean hull throughout the entire dry-docking interval.
Davide Ippolito, Head of Product Management, Maritime Group at Hempel A/S, commented on the launch of the new hull coating: "Within our Globic product range, it is one of our most successful product groups, offering excellent return on investment.
The latest Globic 7000 is designed to offer customers complete operational flexibility. As the industry shifts its direction toward low-speed steaming operations, this new coating, which supports this movement, provides significant fuel savings and exceptional protection for all ship types and a wide variety of operating conditions for 60 months. The high solids content in the coating means it can be applied faster, delivering greater cost savings when the vessel is in dry-dock." Hempel's patented Nano acrylic technology is the driving force behind the Globic product range and provides a fine polishing control mechanism to deliver integral biocides to the surface at a steady rate to ensure a clean hull throughout the entire service life. The unique technology of Globic allows the coating to start working the moment it comes into contact with water, ensuring complete and immediate antifouling protection. Globic 7000 contains Hempel's patented microfibers, which give the coating leading-in-class mechanical strength. The microfibers increase the coating's resistance to wear and impact damage, which frequently occurs during daily operations, and protect against cracking and peeling. This reinforcement of the coating minimizes the area requiring pressure cleaning and thus significantly reduces maintenance costs during dry-docking. Globic 7000 at a glance: • Lasting protection against both hard and soft fouling thanks to an intelligent and efficient biocide package. • Suitable for all ship types and a wide range of operating conditions, including low-speed steaming and extended idle periods. • Proven patented Nano acrylic technology. • Effective protection for 60 months. • Improved color stability. • Low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) levels – below 400 g/L. • Reinforced with patented microfibers for leading-in-class mechanical strength to prevent cracking and peeling, significantly reducing dry-dock maintenance costs in port. *As speed loss increases, more power and consequently more fuel is required for the vessel to move through water.Advertisement
