Jointly Developed, Breakthrough Catalysts Clariant introduced breakthrough catalysts jointly developed with Linde Engineering for a new ethylene production technology. Clariant Catalysts collaborated with Linde Engineering to develop new catalysts for oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODH-E), an innovative, low-emission catalytic technology for ethylene production. The new catalyst represents a step-change in selectivity and productivity, and now makes ethylene production via ODH-E commercially viable. (Photo: Linde Engineering)[/caption] Clariant's ODH catalysts are available exclusively for Linde Engineering's innovative EDHOX™ catalytic ethylene technology. Unlike conventional steam cracking, which operates at process temperatures up to 900°C, EDHOX™ operates at moderate temperatures (below 400°C) and delivers relatively low CO₂ emissions. Additionally, CO₂ capture and electrification potential are inherent in Linde Engineering's process design. Together, these differences result in CO₂ emissions reductions of up to 100% compared with conventional steam cracking. (Photo: Clariant)[/caption] Clariant's new catalysts are the first to offer high selectivity to ethylene and acetic acid (up to 93%) for oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane, while simultaneously demonstrating exceptional productivity under such conditions, minimizing by-product formation. Furthermore, the development of the new catalysts and their impact on CO₂ emissions support Clariant's objectives of creating low-carbon solutions through sustainable innovation and generating value through safe chemistry and responsible use of resources.
