PIMA Publishes Updated EPDs for Polyiso Insulation

EPDs are internationally recognized documents and reporting tools that reveal the environmental impacts of building materials such as insulation and help inform product selection processes. These third-party verified and ISO-compliant EPDs present environmental impact data based on industry averages for polyiso roof insulation, polyiso wall insulation, and high-density (HD) polyiso roof covering board products manufactured by PIMA members in the United States and Canada.
PIMA's newly published EPDs for polyiso roof insulation, polyiso wall insulation, and HD polyiso roof covering boards combine several important features. Prepared using a cradle-to-grave Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach for polyiso, these documents report environmental impacts across the entire product life cycle over a 75-year building service life. The EPDs have been published in accordance with applicable Product Category Rules (PCRs) for insulation and roof covering board products and also encompass recently updated and improved PCRs for building thermal insulation envelope.
Scaling factors are included in the EPDs for polyiso roof and wall insulation products that enable professionals to calculate impacts according to specific insulation board thicknesses. Additionally, for polyiso roof insulation and HD polyiso roof covering boards, the impacts of a complete roof replacement over the 75-year building service life are also taken into account in the EPDs.
