Western Mediterranean Continues Export Growth
Exports from the Western Mediterranean region, covering Antalya, Isparta and Burdur, reached USD 1,008,455,568 this year.
Western Mediterranean Exporters Association (BAİB) Chairman Ümit Mirza Çavuşoğlu made assessments regarding the region's export performance in a written statement.
Announcing that regional exports had surpassed the USD 1 billion threshold, Çavuşoğlu stated: "Our exports reached USD 1,008,455,568. With 1,906 companies from our region exporting to 158 countries, we exceeded the USD 1 billion export figure two days earlier than last year. Despite the economic contraction affecting the world, the uninterrupted continuation of activities by Western Mediterranean exporters on a global scale gives us hope for the future."
Fresh vegetables and fruit ranked first among the sectors with highest export volumes
Noting that fresh vegetables and fruit ranked first among the sectors with highest export volumes, Çavuşoğlu reported that mining focused on natural stone came second, timber and forest products third, chemical substances fourth, and the iron and non-ferrous metals sector fifth. Çavuşoğlu stated that Russia, Germany, China, Ukraine and Romania were the five countries receiving the highest exports during the 1 January–16 May period, respectively. Emphasizing their expectations that regional exports will write new success stories once the economic contraction experienced abroad ends, Çavuşoğlu noted: "Despite the Russia-Ukraine war and global economic difficulties, it is important to maintain our export figures, make them sustainable and establish the region as one of the most important players in the regional economy. As BAİB, we will continue our efforts to further increase exports. In this framework, we will conduct training activities in the coming weeks. Following the trainings, we will fulfill our mission by taking our companies to international marketing activities, conducting business meetings and establishing export connections."
