Aegean Exporters' Associations Increase Exports by 18% in March

Aegean Exporters Associations increased their March exports by 18 percent, reaching USD 1.286 billion in export revenues. In the first quarter of 2021, covering the January-March period, the Aegean Exporters Associations increased their exports by 8.5 percent, reaching USD 3.515 billion, and over the past 12 months generated USD 13.278 billion in exports.

Textiles set new record, Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Association tops exports

The Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association earned Turkey USD 35 million with an 81 percent increase, securing the top growth spot for March following January and February. The Aegean Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Association raised March exports by 37 percent to USD 165 million, becoming the top exporting association. The Aegean Ready-Made Garments and Apparel Exporters Association achieved the second-highest export volume with USD 117 million, up 37 percent. The Aegean Aquaculture and Animal Products Exporters Association increased exports by 42 percent to USD 101 million in March. The Aegean Mining Exporters Association generated USD 88 million in exports with an 8 percent increase, while the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association recorded USD 82 million in exports, up 15 percent. The Aegean Dried Fruit and Processed Fruit Products Exporters Association generated USD 63 million in March, and the Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters Association earned Turkey USD 57 million, up 6 percent. The Aegean Cereals, Legumes, Oilseeds and Processed Products Exporters Association recorded USD 49 million in March exports, while the Aegean Tobacco Exporters Association achieved USD 42 million in exports. The Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association reached USD 14 million in exports, and the Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association generated USD 13 million in exports with a 3 percent increase.  

Industrial products exports rise 36 percent

Jak Eskinazi, Coordinator Chairman of the Aegean Exporters Associations, noted that they reached the highest monthly export figure in the post-pandemic period and continued: "Last March, EİB members' industrial products exports declined by 12 percent. In March 2021, all our industrial associations succeeded in increasing their exports. Our industrial products exports rose from USD 585 million to USD 784 million, a 36 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Agricultural products exports reached USD 413 million, while our mining sector exports rose 8 percent to USD 88 million. Of our 12 exporting associations, 8 increased their exports in March. Two of our food associations succeeded in increasing exports in March, while five fell short of their performance from the previous year."

Aquaculture exports exceed USD 1 billion for the first time

Jak Eskinazi announced that ferrous and non-ferrous metals, ready-made garments and apparel, and aquaculture and animal products associations exceeded USD 100 million in exports, stating: "Our aquaculture exports surpassed USD 1 billion for the first time in a 12-month period. The pandemic's effects are now easing. One of the major obstacles facing our exports is the shipping crisis, which is a global problem. During the pandemic, logistics disruptions, pent-up demand, companies' desire to build inventory against possible lockdowns, and container shortages intensified the crisis. Over the past 12 months, Far East-Europe freight and container prices have shown significant increases; with global vaccination and eased restrictions, world trade normalization should improve conditions further by mid-year. We are advancing with confidence toward our 2021 export target of USD 15 billion." he said.

While national exports under the general trade system increased 9.6 percent in February, İzmir's exports under the general trade system rose 13.9 percent in February.

Aegean Region exports reached USD 2.505 billion in March

According to the special trade system, the Aegean Region's exports reached USD 2.505 billion in March. İzmir, ranking among Turkey's top exporting provinces, generated USD 1.387 billion in exports. In the Aegean Region, Manisa recorded USD 491 million, Denizli USD 351 million, Balıkesir USD 66 million, Aydın USD 62 million, Muğla USD 61 million, Afyon USD 34 million, Kütahya USD 27 million, and Uşak USD 24 million in exports.
