Exports Approach $126 Billion in First Half of the Year

Exports Approach USD 126 Billion in First Half Turkey Exporters Assembly (TİM) released June 2022 export data. In June, exports reached USD 23.4 billion, representing an 18.5 percent increase compared to the same month last year. With this figure, the highest monthly export record of all time was achieved, with monthly records broken in 20 of the last 22 months. TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, stated: "The continuation of the current upward momentum in our exports is extremely valuable to us. In June, our exports reached USD 23.4 billion with an 18 percent increase, marking the highest monthly export figure to date. In the first 6 months, this figure approached USD 126 billion with a 20 percent increase. Our 12-month exports exceeded USD 246 billion. We set monthly export records in 20 of the last 22 months. I congratulate our entire export family for this outstanding performance. We see that Turkey is now ready to discuss export targets beyond USD 250 billion and set sail toward new horizons." Turkey Exporters Assembly (TİM), the umbrella organization of 61 exporter associations, 27 sectors and over 100,000 exporters working and producing for economic growth and Turkey's place among global powers, announced the June foreign trade data with the participation of Trade Minister Mehmet Muş at a meeting held at the East Anatolia Exporters Association's (DAİB) service building in Erzurum. According to the announced data, Turkish exporters, the field representatives of Turkey's economy and trade diplomacy, achieved USD 23.4 billion in exports in June, reaching the highest monthly export figure of all time. With these figures, records were broken in 20 of the last 22 months in exports. TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, who was elected at the 29th Regular General Assembly of Turkey Exporters Assembly (TİM) and participated in the first Foreign Trade Evaluation Meeting, expressed great satisfaction at being in Erzurum and noted that today holds special significance for them as the new TİM management's first foreign trade evaluation meeting.  
June saw the highest monthly export record of all time
  TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, noting that the export family set a historic record in the first month of TİM's new term, stated: "In June, our exports reached USD 23.4 billion with an 18 percent increase, marking the highest monthly export figure to date. In the first 6 months, this figure approached USD 126 billion with a 20 percent increase. Our 12-month exports exceeded USD 246 billion. We set monthly export records in 20 of the last 22 months. Our preliminary estimates indicate that we will maintain momentum in the second half of the year and reach our year-end export target of USD 250 billion before year-end. I congratulate our entire export family for this outstanding performance."  
Chemicals sector leads exports
  TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, sharing details on the export figures, provided the following information: "Looking at the details of our figures, we see that exactly 20 sectors increased their exports. Our top 5 sectors this month were Chemicals with USD 3.2 billion, Automotive reaching USD 2.7 billion, Steel with USD 2.3 billion in exports, Ready-Made Garments with USD 2 billion, and Electrical-Electronics with USD 1.4 billion in exports. Our Cereals and Furniture, Paper, Forest Products sectors set their highest export figures to date. Our Cereals sector achieved USD 1 billion in exports on a monthly basis for the first time." TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, also noting that exports in motor vehicles, aluminum products and iron-steel goods product groups increased at notable levels, stated that exports in the top 10 product groups recording the most increase this month rose by USD 825 million.
In June, 61 provinces increased exports while 3 provinces set records
  TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, noting that 61 provinces succeeded in increasing their exports in June, stated that the 5 provinces with the highest exports were Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa, Izmir and Ankara respectively. Noting that other provinces standing out with export growth besides these cities were Bursa, Mersin, Sakarya and Kayseri, TİM President Mustafa Gültepe said: "Adana, Muğla and Balıkesir are our 3 provinces that set records this month with their strong performance. Additionally, our exporters within DAİB, at whose headquarters we are present today, increased their exports by 10 percent, achieving USD 255 million in exports. I congratulate all our provinces for this successful performance."  
Exports to 160 countries increased
  TİM President Mustafa Gültepe stated that our exporters succeeded in flying Turkey's flag in 215 countries and regions this month and continued: "We recorded increases in exports to 160 countries. Our top 5 export destinations were Germany, USA, Iraq, United Kingdom and Italy. In addition to these countries, we see significant increases in our exports to Romania, United Arab Emirates and South Africa. We reached record levels in exports to a total of 18 countries, including Russia, South Korea, Argentina and India." TİM President Mustafa Gültepe provided information that USD 13 billion was exported to European countries, USD 3.9 billion to Near and Middle East countries, USD 2.3 billion to Africa, USD 1.8 billion to North America and USD 1.7 billion to Far East countries by country groups.  
10 percent increase in volume terms
  TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, noting that export volume increased by 10 percent to 16.6 million tons compared to the previous June, stated that unit export value increased by 9 percent to USD 1.41. Noting that 1,905 companies joined the export family by exporting for the first time this month, TİM President Mustafa Gültepe reported that new companies achieved USD 80 million in exports in June. TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, stating that in a period when the world is struggling with economic difficulties triggered by high inflation and rising energy prices, Turkey continues to take strong steps in the economy through goods and services production, said: "The strong performance in our exports keeps the production and employment markets dynamic. According to the latest disclosed data, industrial production increased by 10.8 percent on an annual basis. Capacity utilization rate was realized at 77.6 percent in June. In April, 408,000 new jobs were created. We wish these encouraging developments to be auspicious for our country."  
"We shared our sectors' needs-based demands with the Central Bank Governor through common sense and consultation"
  TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, noting that in recent days some macroprudential measures regarding the use of commercial credits and rediscount credits have been implemented to stabilize the Turkish lira against exchange rates, stated that Turkey Exporters Assembly is closely monitoring the steps taken. TİM President Mustafa Gültepe said: "As our exports rise rapidly, our financing needs increase accordingly. Last week, we held our TİM Extended Board of Directors meeting with the participation of our Central Bank Governor Şahap Kavcıoğlu and sector representatives. In the meeting, we addressed a wide range of issues in detail, from export financing in the new term to the implemented macroprudential measures. Through common sense and consultation, we shared our sectors' needs-based demands with our Central Bank Governor." TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, saying that the normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia, an important market for Turkey, will bring new opportunities, stated: "We also saw the positive reflections of developments in bilateral relations in our export figures this month. Our exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 63 percent, reaching USD 25 million. As we enter a period when global recession concerns are increasing, the importance of close and reliable trade is greater than ever. It is extremely important for our country to produce geopolitical solutions in its close geography during this process to avoid the effects of a possible global contraction." TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, expressing that the export figures received in the first half of the year demonstrate that Turkish exporters continue their path with determination, evaluating all opportunities presented to them, stated: "The continuation of the current upward momentum in our exports is extremely valuable to us. We see that Turkey is now ready to discuss export targets beyond USD 250 billion and set sail toward new horizons."  
DAİB's new headquarters serves exporters
  An opening ceremony was held at the newly completed and operational service building of the East Anatolia Exporters Association (DAİB). Trade Minister Mehmet Muş and TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, along with TİM Deputy Presidents and Association Presidents attended the opening.
