Samsun's Exports Reach $537.5 Million in First Five Months
Samsun Records USD 537.5 Million in Exports in First Five Months
Salih Zeki Murzioğlu, Chairman of the Board of Samsun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TSO), stated that Samsun increased its exports by 10.9% in the first five months of this year compared to the same period last year, exporting USD 537 million 508 thousand to 154 countries and five free zones.
Chairman Salih Zeki Murzioğlu provided information on export figures published according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute's (TÜİK) special export system. Salih Zeki Murzioğlu announced that Samsun, which achieved total exports of USD 484 million 679 thousand in the first five months of last year, exported USD 537 million 508 thousand during the same period this year.
Noting that Samsun exported to a total of 154 countries and five free zones in the first five months, Murzioğlu stated that the five countries with the highest exports were the United States, Morocco, the Netherlands, Egypt and the Russian Federation, followed by Peru, Germany, Georgia, Yemen and the United Kingdom. Murzioğlu also noted that with its exports in the first five months, Samsun rose one rank compared to last year and ranked 19th.
Most exported products
Chairman Murzioğlu also made a statement regarding the most exported products from Samsun during January-May 2022, saying: "The five product categories with the highest exports from our province in the first five months were headed by 'iron and steel', 'motor vehicles', 'milling products', 'weapons and ammunition, and their parts, components and accessories' and 'boilers, machinery, mechanical appliances and tools'. These were followed by 'fish, crustaceans, mollusks and other aquatic invertebrates', 'electrical machinery and apparatus', 'articles of iron or steel', 'rubber and rubber articles' and 'edible fruit and nuts'. Looking at this, Samsun achieved exports in a total of 78 chapters in the first five months. When we take only May of 2021 as a reference, there appears to be a slight decrease in our export figures, but our increase in the five-month period continued. God willing, by the end of the year we will exceed the 2021 figures," he said."We will continue to contribute to the development of export capacity"
Stating that Samsun's export figures for five months are encouraging for the continuation of the export growth rate, Murzioğlu said: "Our main objective is to channel the potential that Samsun possesses toward economic development with high efficiency. In line with this objective, we are conducting activities that will contribute directly and indirectly to the development of the capacity of our members by managing our resources correctly. Most recently, under the 2022 Annual Technical Support Program for Value-Added Production and Export Development, through our chamber foundation we signed with the development agency on Applied Export Personnel Training in Samsun, targeting at least 300 companies. Although this is a small-scale initiative, it is one of dozens of projects that our Chamber has implemented to contribute to the development of exports in Samsun. We know that this city can reach very high export figures. Although we reached the export target we set years ago later than we desired, today we see a continuous increase. During the period when we clearly presented our goals with the export development strategy plan, we made great progress with the network project in which we participated and continuously coordinated. We trained dozens of export personnel, ensured their employment, and continue to do so. And at the point we have reached today, Samsun has exceeded the USD 1 billion export figure for the first time in its history last year. The most important aspect here is to ensure sustainable growth. As Samsun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we will continue to contribute to the development of Samsun's export capacity," he said.Advertisement
