Tüpraş Publishes Sustainability Report

The company has been included in the Index on which the BIST Sustainability Index is based since 2014.

Tüpraş included in its 2017-2018 Sustainability Report the social, economic and environmental impacts of its operations, as well as its socially responsible management approaches developed in these areas and its work focused on innovation and digitalization. Tüpraş General Manager İbrahim Yelmenoğlu: "We have identified sustainability as one of the main elements of our way of doing business. From our investment decisions to our working methods, we prioritize sustainability in all our operations. Following our first reporting work in 2008, we have demonstrated significant development over ten years by increasing our social, environmental and economic performance within our sustainability management program. We are proud to be included continuously every year in the BIST Sustainability Index published since 2014," he said. Tüpraş released its 2017-2018 Sustainability Report. The company, which maintains its leadership through pioneering practices in the field of sustainability management alongside the economic added value it creates, set an exemplary standard in transparency and accountability with its sustainability reporting in compliance with GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards, which it implemented in 2008 as a first in Turkey. The report presents a complete picture of the sustainability dimensions of the activities carried out by Tüpraş between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2018, while also reflecting the results of the work implemented from 2008 to the present.

A More Efficient and Sustainable Development Model Is Needed

Drawing attention to the major changes occurring in business and personal life as a result of developments such as population growth, climate change and the rapid development and proliferation of technology, Tüpraş General Manager İbrahim Yelmenoğlu said, "We are unfortunately still far from claiming that the recorded developments bring equal benefits to countries. In the face of this situation, a more inclusive, more efficient and sustainable development model emerges as a need with an innovative perspective. The goal of improving the living standards of future generations can only be realized by bringing together all relevant stakeholders, including the business world, public institutions and civil society organizations, around such a model." Noting that Tüpraş developed its stance much earlier in response to all these developments with a visionary approach, Yelmenoğlu said "We have identified sustainability as one of the main elements of our way of doing business. Yelmenoğlu continued his remarks: "As an energy company, increasing our environmental performance is at the forefront of our sustainability goals, with awareness of the importance of climate change, a global issue. In this direction, through investments and projects carried out between 2008-2018, we reduced energy consumption intensity from 119.1 to 99.1. In 2018, we increased the amount of wastewater recovered compared to 2008 by 73%. In the field of innovation, which also supports our efforts to combat climate change, the 2008-2018 period contains an important milestone. Together with our R&D center, we allocated approximately TRY 290 million to work focused on developing high-value-added and lower environmental impact products, process innovation and digitalization."
