2023 MTP Export Target Set to Be Achieved in 2022

TİM President İsmail Gülle stated, "It appears that if we maintain this pace, we will achieve the 242 billion dollar export target set in the Medium-Term Program (OVP) for 2023 in 2022." In a statement from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the Turkish economy grew by 7.4% in the third quarter of this year. The contribution of exports to GDP growth was 5 percentage points (68%), while the contribution of net exports was 6.8 percentage points (92.3%).

"We have confirmed our entry into a new league in exports"

TİM President Gülle, whose views were included in the statement, emphasized that Turkey stood out as a reliable producer by maintaining production and exports despite the difficult conditions of the pandemic. Gülle, expressing pride in the contribution they made to growth, spoke as follows: "We seized important opportunities during the pandemic and made very good use of them. The increase in our exports during months when restrictions were extended or increased indicates that our country is now a secure harbor in supply. Because as a result of supply chain disruptions, importing countries experienced the drawbacks of dependence on a single source for supply and began seeking alternatives. This reflected in our export figures. While demand for our exported goods increased in every sector, the Turkey brand grew stronger. In October, our exports reached USD 20.8 billion with a 20.2% increase compared to the same month last year. With this figure, we set our highest monthly export record in our history and confirmed that we have entered a new league in exports. Our country grew by 7% in the first quarter, 21.7% in the second quarter, and 7.4% in the third quarter of the year. The contribution of exports to GDP growth was 5 percentage points (68%), while the contribution of net exports was 6.8 percentage points (92.3%). These figures show that we are moving with confident steps towards our goal of 'Turkey generating foreign trade surplus' and that we are growing through exports and strengthening through exports."

"Turkey's export capacity is USD 20 billion monthly and above"

İsmail Gülle stated that they achieved USD 215.7 billion in exports over the last 12 months, surpassing the annual export target of USD 211 billion. "If we base our assessment on the first 10 months of the year, our sectors were barely affected by the contraction that the pandemic created in global trade. 20 of our sectors set records. While we set export records in 10 of the last 12 months, our country's share of world exports exceeded 1% for the first time in the history of the Republic. We have already achieved the OVP target. We are faced with a picture beyond our expectations. If the export community maintains this performance, it will reach much higher targets in a short time. It appears that if we continue at this pace, we will achieve the OVP export target of USD 242 billion set for 2023 in 2022. We will hopefully lay the groundwork and path for the majority of this this year. Turkey's export capacity is now USD 20 billion monthly and above. God willing, in 2026, within a period as short as 5 years, we will reach USD 300 billion. Our dream and goal is to make Turkey a country that generates foreign trade surplus. Our export tonnage reached 172 million tons annually. When we reach our USD 300 billion export target, we expect the tonnage volume to also increase to 250 million tons. Our companies' order books show there is robust demand."
