Anıl Sönmez, CEO of Almatis, which operates under OYAK, stated that the company continues its global growth not only in alumina production but also in advanced materials technologies, saying, "Our goal is to have a say in global industry through the strength of Turkish capital and to become one of the companies that set the standards for the sector."
Anıl Sönmez, CEO of Almatis operating under OYAK, stated that the company continues its global growth not only in alumina production but also in advanced materials technologies, saying, "Our goal is to become a voice in global industry with the strength of Turkish capital and to become one of the companies that set the standards in our sector."
Almatis, operating under OYAK and one of the world's leading private alumina producers, continues its global growth through investments in advanced materials technologies. Anıl Sönmez, CEO of the company, said that Almatis has transformed from merely an alumina producer into a global technology company offering high-value-added solutions to its customers.
Sönmez, noting that Almatis is one of OYAK's most powerful industrial investments on an international scale, stated that the company has shown significant progress in technology, quality and global reach since 2016 under the OYAK umbrella.
"What sets us apart is not only our products"
Anıl Sönmez, emphasizing that Almatis's competitive strength does not stem solely from product quality, said:
"Passion, global inclusivity, accountability, solidarity and team spirit form the foundation of our corporate culture. What differentiates us is not only producing high-quality products; it is our technical knowledge accumulation, the solutions we develop together with our customers and our long-term business partnership approach. For our customers, Almatis is not just a raw material supplier but a trusted technology and solutions partner."
Growth extending beyond alumina
Noting that the company's growth strategy extends beyond alumina production, Sönmez said that recent investments have turned this vision into concrete steps.
Recalling that they commissioned a new integrated tabular alumina facility in India in 2022, Sönmez said that in 2025 they completed a capacity expansion investment at the US Arkansas facility and laid the foundation for a new calcined alumina facility in China in the same year. Sönmez, noting that the facility is planned to begin operations in 2027, stated that it will produce high-purity alumina, which is of critical importance for semiconductors, electric vehicle batteries and high-performance electronic applications, and that these investments will increase not only production capacity but also technological capabilities.
"Global leader for over a century, local supplier"
Sönmez, noting that Almatis uses its global production strength to provide quick solutions to local market needs, said that the company's long-adopted approach of "global leader for over a century, local supplier" remains one of the most important competitive advantages today.
Expressing that the company's innovation approach is built on a comprehensive approach extending from laboratory to field, Sönmez noted that in customer satisfaction surveys, 90% of Almatis customers rated the company's innovation capabilities as "good" or "excellent".

Strategic partnerships in global growth
Sönmez, expressing that they support growth not only through investments but also through strong partnerships, said that they have recently established new distribution and business partnerships in Africa, Europe and North America.
Noting the importance of synergy developed among companies within OYAK, Sönmez stated that the strategic partnership with Akdeniz Chemson in South America has made an important contribution to the group's global growth vision.
Resilient structure against global crises with a strong operation network
Recalling that the pandemic, geopolitical developments and global economic uncertainties affected all industrial sectors, Sönmez said that Almatis successfully managed this period thanks to its strong production network.
Sönmez, noting that the local production-global brand approach provided uninterrupted supply to customers, stated that they continuously improve the entire supply chain from product packaging to logistics.
Sustainability at the center of investments
Stating that Almatis carries out its sustainability approach under the "Mission NeutrAL" program, Sönmez said that sustainability is not merely an environmental policy for the company but one of the fundamental elements of its business culture.
Sönmez, noting that all products manufactured at European and US facilities have verified carbon footprint data shared with customers, stated that ECO TAB® and low-carbon alumina products contribute to both energy savings and reduction of carbon emissions in steel manufacturers.
"We will be one of the companies that set standards in global industry"
Noting that in the coming period they will focus on new materials technologies beyond alumina, Sönmez concluded his remarks as follows:
"We aim to position Almatis as a technical reference point in many strategic sectors over the next 10-20 years. Our goal is not only to grow; it is to become a company that sets standards on a global scale in advanced materials technologies, standing out for innovation and sustainability. We want to achieve this transformation with the strength of Turkish capital."
