Artkim Fuarcılık Sales Director Yasemin Yıldırım assessed Turkey's impressive growth in Life Sciences covering the cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food sectors during a programme she attended on NTV. Yıldırım emphasised that Turkey is maintaining its upward trend in the global market and highlighted that the sector's export potential is strengthening.
"Turkey is undergoing major expansion in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food sectors. We are working to increase our country's value-added production and export capacity in the Life Sciences field," said Yıldırım, who also shared important information about the international trade fairs to be held in Istanbul on 18–20 June.
The Sector's Heartbeat Will Beat in Istanbul
The CHCI (Cosmetics), Pharmaist (Pharmaceuticals) and FNI (Food) trade fairs will take place in Istanbul on 18–20 June. These B2B format organisations will serve as a critical bridge in the sector's supply chain by bringing raw material producers and finished product manufacturers together.
Yıldırım stated, "Our trade fairs are important platforms where the latest innovations in the sector are showcased, global business connections are established and Turkey's production capacity is presented to international buyers. Sustainable production technologies, bio-based raw materials and innovative formulations will be the focal points of this year's organisations, in particular."
Renewable Raw Material Trends in the Cosmetics Sector
In parallel with global trends, demand in Turkey for products made with microplastic-free, natural and renewable ingredients is increasing in the cosmetics sector. At the CHCI Fair this year, the focus will be particularly on bioactive ingredients, plant-based polymers and microbiome-friendly formulations.
Yasemin Yıldırım stated, "Sustainability in the cosmetics industry has become an obligation, not a choice. Turkish cosmetics manufacturers are investing especially in raw materials and production processes compliant with the European Green Deal. Within the scope of the fair, silica-based carriers, encapsulation technologies and environmentally friendly packaging solutions will also be among the highlighted topics," she said.
Supply Chain Security in the Pharmaceutical Sector
In the post-pandemic period, supply chain security and localisation strategies have gained major importance in the pharmaceutical sector. The Pharmaist Fair stands out with content focused on this transformation.
Yıldırım said, "Reducing import dependency in pharmaceutical raw materials is among Turkey's strategic objectives. At our fair, active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production, quality control processes and traceability technologies will have extensive coverage. Furthermore, we will create an important platform for collaborations that will increase Turkey's capacity in biotechnological medicines and advanced therapy medicinal products," she said.
Functional Components in Food Innovation
At the FNI Fair this year, functional food components, probiotics, prebiotics and health-focused food supplements will be in the foreground. It will offer significant opportunities for converting Turkey's abundant agricultural resources into value-added products.
"To increase Turkey's competitive advantage in food technologies, we need to strengthen raw material diversity and innovation capacity," Yıldırım said. "Turkish manufacturers have very valuable work, especially in plant protein sources, fermentation technologies and biopreservatives. At the FNI Fair we will have the opportunity to introduce these innovations to the global market," she said.
Sector Collaboration and Future Vision
Yasemin Yıldırım also drew attention to the importance of research and development and innovation for sustainable growth in Turkey's cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food sectors. "To advance in global competition, value-added production and a strong supply chain are essential. Our trade fairs, which bring together all components of the sector, create important synergy for achieving this goal," she said.
Yıldırım made the following final assessments: "Turkey's geographical location, production capacity and qualified human resources strengthen the potential of becoming a regional centre in the Life Sciences field. We are providing the collaborative environment the industry needs on artificial intelligence and digital technology integration into the sector, green transition processes and integration into global value chains at our trade fairs."
This advance by Turkey in the Life Sciences sector is expected to play an important role in the country reaching its export targets and climbing higher in global value chains.
