Strokes Taken in the Bosphorus Turned Into Education Support for 230 Children

The “This Is a Call for Education Support” campaign organized by TEGV within the scope of the 38th Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race contributed to bringing 230 children together with quality education support, thanks to the backing of 249 donors.

The 38th Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race, held in the İstanbul Strait on August 23, also hosted volunteer swimmers this year who wanted to support children’s educational journeys. As part of the Turkish Education Volunteers Foundation’s (TEGV) “This Is a Call for Education Support” campaign, 13 volunteer swimmers took strokes in order to contribute to equal opportunity in education and to help more children access quality education support.

In the organization, which brought together swimmers from different countries around the world, 2,500 athletes from 64 countries completed the 6.5-kilometer course stretching from Asia to Europe by swimming. TEGV’s volunteer swimmers, in addition to their athletic goals, also added meaning to the race through the donation campaigns they ran in order to contribute to children’s education.

The 13 volunteer swimmers who supported TEGV’s “This Is a Call for Education Support” campaign invited those around them to contribute to children’s education both before and after the race. While the swimmers competed for their own athletic goals on the course connecting the two shores of the Bosphorus, they also aimed, through their campaigns, to support more children’s educational journeys.

Among the volunteer swimmers who took part in the campaign was a 14-year-old young athlete who launched a donation campaign this year while participating in the Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race for the first time. Another volunteer swimmer, who had taken part in events organized by TEGV during childhood, supported the foundation years later this time by taking strokes for children’s education.

The donation process for the “This Is a Call for Education Support” campaign ended on September 7. The 249 donors who supported the campaign contributed to bringing 230 children together with quality education support at TEGV.

Thanks to the campaign, contributions were made to help children at TEGV’s activity centers develop their knowledge and skills, discover their potential, and become better equipped for the future.

TEGV continues to use the unifying power of sports to support children’s education. Throughout the year, the foundation aims to mobilize volunteer athletes for education and reach more children through the donation campaigns it organizes at marathons and various sports events.
