Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeki Candan Receives Outstanding Young Scientist Award

Associate Professor Dr. Zeki Candan, faculty member at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa School of Forestry Department of Forest Industry Engineering, has been selected as a recipient of the TÜBA Outstanding Young Scientist Award by the Turkish Academy of Sciences for his internationally recognized scientific studies, publications, citations, projects, patents and successful collaborations with industry in the fields of nanotechnology, biomaterials and Industry 4.0. Associate Professor Dr. Zeki Candan received the Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the President of the Turkish Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in a ceremony held at the Presidential Complex. Associate Professor Dr. Zeki Candan commented: "Nanoscience and nanotechnology began to gain prominence from the 2000s onwards. Applications are available in diverse fields ranging from genetic research to space-aircraft studies, from energy to automotive, from medicine and pharmaceuticals to food, from textiles to chemical industry, from electrical-electronics to forest products industry. After accumulating various research and investigation experience in this field in the United States in the mid-2000s, we decided to conduct doctoral work in our field in Turkey. Together with my doctoral advisor Professor Dr. Turgay Akbulut, we wrote several project proposals in the field of nanotechnology and, with funding from both state resources and the private sector, began establishing laboratory infrastructure at our university in 2009 and completed the setup of the 'Nanotechnology Laboratory' and 'Thermal Analysis Laboratory' at our university in 2010. Additionally, we continue research and development and innovation activities in Industry 4.0, smart products, smart manufacturing systems, smart factories and smart cities with another highly successful team in our field. In addition to memberships in leading scientific associations located in various countries, particularly the United States, we hold board memberships and committee-advisory board memberships. Our research is also supported by TUBITAK and the European Union COST program. Beyond this, I serve as editor, editorial board member and peer reviewer in numerous international journals."
