Dow to Upgrade Louisiana Cracker with Fluidized Catalytic Dehydrogenation (FCDh) Technology

As part of the company's existing low capital intensity and high-return growing growth investments, Dow (NYSE: DOW) announced today that it will adapt proprietary fluid catalytic dehydrogenation (FCDh) technology to one of its mixed cracking units in Louisiana to produce on-purpose propylene. The upgrade will enable Dow to continue meeting increasing demand for its business units serving consumer, infrastructure and packaging end markets, while also ensuring that short-term capital expenditure remains within targets. Dow and other U.S. cracker operators are processing heavier feedstocks and consuming more ethane, resulting in lower production of derivative products (including propylene). This reduction in propylene creates a supply and demand gap requiring on-purpose propylene sources to meet U.S. derivative product sales requirements.
