Official Chemistry Company of the Olympic Games Celebrates 60 Years in Brazil by Providing Solutions and Technologies for Rio 2016 Olympic Games

As the world gathers in Brazil for the excitement of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Dow (NYSE:DOW), the official chemistry company of the Olympic Games and official carbon partner of Rio 2016, proudly provides innovative science-based solutions for one of the world's most prestigious organizations. Celebrating its 60th year in the region, Dow is involved in more than 20 projects related to the Olympic Games, ranging from playing field technologies to Olympic facility construction, transportation, city infrastructure and carbon reduction. Louis A. Vega, Vice President of Global Olympic and Sports Solutions at Dow, said: "Dow demonstrates how science empowers the world of sports with our accumulated expertise and broad solution portfolio. Our technologies are used in the city's expanding infrastructure as well as in Rio 2016's most important competition venues. As the official chemistry company of the Olympic Games, we are able to meet the needs of organizers, athletes, media and spectators to ensure the successful realization of the Rio 2016 Games." With solutions deployed at numerous Olympic facilities, Dow is proud to further expand its operations in this strategic and important region in 2016, as it celebrates its 60th anniversary in Brazil.

Playing Field Technologies

· Rio 2016 hockey matches at Deodoro Park will take place on high-performance innovative synthetic grass systems using DOWLEX™ linear low-density polyethylene resin, and polyurethane technologies from Dow for carpet backing. · Balls used in Olympic hockey competitions are based on specially manufactured micro-foam polyurethane core structure developed with Dow polyols. The polyurethane core provides much higher and more consistent performance compared to hockey balls made from conventional hardened cork and plastic cores or solid polymer cores. · Dow plastic resins are used in pipes for the drainage and irrigation systems beneath the natural grass field of the Maracana stadium, which will host the Opening and Closing ceremonies and major football matches. Dow technologies were also used in flooring applications within the stadium and in waterproofing systems for concrete and metal structures.

Athletes Village

· Building chemicals and paints formulated with Dow coating technologies were used in buildings in the Athletes Village for attractive, long-lasting protection and finishing. · Twenty-eight modular water tanks providing a reliable water supply system to athletes, coaches, officials and referees participating in the Games were manufactured with Dow Propylene Glycol resins. · More sustainable water-based road markings using FASTRACK™ technologies were applied to bicycle lanes surrounding and within the Village, alongside the iconic Copacabana beach and in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood. · Athletes from more than 200 countries competing in Rio will sleep on comfortable beds manufactured with Dow polyurethane technologies.

Olympic Park

· Dow Wire and Cable technologies provide protection and durability to power and data cables installed in facilities including the Olympic Tennis Center, the Olympic Water Sports Stadium and the Main Press Center/International Broadcast Center (MPC/IBC) complex, through which the media will transmit Rio 2016 stories to billions of viewers. · In the IBC building, Dow technologies are used in the External Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) panels of the building façade. This innovative system allowed the façade to be completed in 30 days, while standard technologies would have required six months for installation.

Infrastructure Solutions in and around Rio

· The roof of Museu do Amanhã is protected with 100% acrylic resin that provides waterproofing and external durability to this iconic structure. Additionally, the reflective roof helps keep the building up to five degrees cooler. · Dow's flooring solutions and polyurethane insulation panels were used in a major renovation at Viracopos International Airport in São Paulo Campinas, one of the main cargo transport centers for the Games. · On Rodovia Presidente Dutra, the most important road connecting Rio to São Paulo, Dow's FASTRACK™ coating technology-based road marking solutions provided reliable sidewalk markings. · WALOCEL™ adhesive mortar solutions were used at Olympic Park and the Athletes Village, as well as in some of Rio's new hotels. Fabian Gil, President of Dow Latin America, said: "We are excited to showcase our technologies in Brazil, ranging from infrastructure solutions to innovative carbon reduction programs, and to share our successes on the world stage with our customers and partners. Rio 2016 marks Dow Brazil's 60th anniversary and also opens a new chapter in Dow's important collaborations and achievements in the region."
