Henkel aims to reduce and prevent plastic waste for 2025. Henkel has also published its 29th Sustainability Report.

Henkel achieved three of this year's targets ahead of schedule. Carbon emissions were reduced by 31% and waste per ton of product was cut by 40%. With a 42% improvement in occupational health and safety, Henkel demonstrated progress exceeding its 2020 target in this area. Water consumption per ton of product declined by 28% compared to 2010, indicating that achieving a 30% reduction target is well within reach. The company targets a 65% reduction in carbon footprint from production by 2025. Henkel plans to reach this goal by continuously increasing energy efficiency and sourcing its electricity from renewable sources. Additionally, Henkel intends to strengthen its brands and technologies to help customers, consumers and suppliers save 100 million tons of carbon dioxide over the 10-year period extending through 2025.

To advance progress and activities in sustainable packaging aimed at promoting a circular economy, Henkel's 2025 targets are as follows:

  • 100% recyclable or reusable*: All Henkel packaging will be recyclable or reusable*.
  • Reduce fossil-based plastics by 50%: Henkel targets a 50% reduction in fossil-sourced non-recycled plastic in consumer products. This goal will be achieved by raising the proportion of recycled plastic used in consumer products above 30% globally, reducing plastic usage and increasing the use of plastic produced from renewable biological sources.
  • Zero waste: Henkel aims to contribute to preventing waste from being released into the environment. For this reason, the company supports waste collection and recycling initiatives and invests in innovative solutions and technologies to promote closed-loop recycling. Henkel targets reaching more than 2 billion consumers annually through recycling education.
