Green Leaders of the Business World Come Together at Carbon Summit

Twenty-nine institutions and organizations that combat climate change through proper carbon accounting have been named "Low Carbon Heroes" by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association. The Carbon Summit, organized by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D) with support from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, focused this year on carbon trading and the country's efforts to combat climate change. Within the scope of the Summit held at Istanbul Technical University's certified green campus, the 'Low Carbon Hero Awards' found their recipients.

Green Economy Gaining Increasing Importance in Our Country

Prof. Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoğlu, Faculty Member at Istanbul Technical University and Chair of SÜT-D, stated that low-carbon growth in industry is possible and emphasized the need to support initiatives and practices in this field. Prof. Dr. Karaosmanoğlu noted that SÜT-D presents the Low Carbon Hero Award to encourage institutions that maintain proper carbon accounting—reducing greenhouse gas emissions and successfully implementing carbon management. Mentioning that they received a record number of applications this year for awards they have been giving since 2015, Prof. Dr. Karaosmanoğlu stated that the intensity of applications is an indication that green economy is gaining increasing importance in our country. Prof. Dr. Karaosmanoğlu noted that they reward technical implementations as well as training and awareness-raising work on carbon reduction, and emphasized that they evaluate applications based on SÜT-D's goal of fostering a sustainable living culture and creating widespread carbon management awareness. She stated that they take pride in each of the 29 SÜT-D 2019 Low Carbon Heroes selected this year.

We Awarded Our Low Carbon Heroes

Sebahattin Dökmeci, Deputy Director General of Environmental Management at the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, presented the awards to the Low Carbon Heroes. The list of 29 Low Carbon Heroes that SÜT-D deemed worthy of the award for maintaining proper carbon accounting is provided below:
