İTO Calls for Turning Artificial Intelligence into Industrial Applications in 2025

İstanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) Chairman Şekib Avdagiç stated that 2025 is seen as "the year of transition to autonomous agents in artificial intelligence that can make independent decisions without co-pilots," and assessed that "we must make 2025 the year in which Turkey, together with the rest of the world, moves artificial intelligence beyond being a buzzword and turns this technology into industrial applications."
Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) President Şekib Avdagıç stated that 2025 is viewed as the year of "transition from AI copilots to autonomous agents capable of making independent decisions," adding that "2025 should be the year we transform AI in Turkey from a buzzword into industrial applications in line with the world."
In a written statement, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce President Şekib Avdagıç noted that 2025 is being called a "turning point" in AI technology, which began roughly two years ago with ChatGPT.
Emphasizing that Turkey must demonstrate itself strongly in the AI race, Avdagıç stated:
"Artificial intelligence is redefining how we do business and shaping national economies. Turkish companies gaining recognition, particularly in sector adaptation, by following examples like ChatGPT and Anthropic, will take our development process to a new level. 2025 is viewed as the year of transition from AI copilots to autonomous agents capable of making independent decisions. We should make 2025 the year we transform AI in Turkey from a buzzword into industrial applications in line with the world."
"Preventing Uncontrolled Use of This Technology Is a Necessity"
İTO President Avdagıç noted that over USD 1.4 trillion in investment is planned for AI data centers between 2024 and 2027, and that Nvidia, which develops AI chips, has surpassed a market value of USD 3.3 trillion.
Stating that only 5 percent of American companies have incorporated AI into their products and services, Avdagıç emphasized that early entrants to the competition will advance further.
Highlighting that the ethical and moral dimensions of AI are an important topic discussed worldwide, Avdagıç said: "The concept of ethical AI will enter our lives to stay away from risks and dangers. As experts have stated, while applications that harness AI for production become widespread, preventing uncontrolled use of this technology will also be a necessity. It would be appropriate to make significant efforts to ensure that advancing AI complies with well-defined ethical rules aligned with fundamental values such as individual rights, privacy, and non-manipulation."
"AI in 2025 Will Replace Some Jobs and Complement Others"
Avdagıç drew attention to the International Monetary Fund's projection that AI will affect nearly 40 percent of jobs globally.
Emphasizing that AI will take multiple forms in 2025, Avdagıç stated: "It will replace some jobs and complement others. The initial examples are quite striking. Google's AI laboratory DeepMind's AlphaFold2 model, launched in 2020, accurately predicted nearly every protein structure in the human body. We will encounter AI-designed medicines in 2025. All of this signals we are on the verge of an exciting AI era."
"We Have Launched the Project on the Impact of Generative AI on the Business World"
Avdagıç announced that as part of efforts to prepare Istanbul's business community for the changing demands of the digital age, the "Generative AI's Impact on the Business World Project" will support companies in the race to use AI correctly and become more efficient and effective.
Pointing to the major benefits that integration of AI technologies into the commerce sector will bring, Avdagıç stated:
"As İTO, we have launched the Generative AI's Impact on the Business World Project, a subdiscipline of artificial intelligence. We will accelerate our work in 2025 that addresses the impact of generative AI, which we believe will have the greatest effect on the economy and production, on the business world. We will highlight the importance of data infrastructure preparation. We will examine the effects of generative AI in areas such as retail, healthcare, media, banking and finance, e-commerce, automotive, textiles, construction and education. Through generative AI, we will conduct work to increase companies' interest in and awareness of AI in many areas such as sales transformation, new business models, financial operations, and creating competitive advantage."
Noting that AI presents significant opportunities in the commerce sector, Avdagıç said: "AI use in the commerce sector makes business processes more efficient while providing competitive advantage. Many applications such as focused marketing strategies, target audience segmentation, dynamic pricing, marketing optimization, chatbots and virtual assistants, sentiment analysis and feedback management, supply chain optimization, autonomous production systems, and logistics management will soon enter our lives."
