Kaleseramik Receives Savings Award from ÇEVKO

Kaleseramik received an award at the ÇEVKO 2018 Green Dot Industrial Awards for its 'Wood Packaging Materials Savings' project. Kaleseramik General Manager Okan Gedik said, "At every step we take from design to production, we are developing environmentally-friendly solutions to leave a better world for future generations." The Green Dot Industrial Awards, organised for the fourth time this year by ÇEVKO Foundation for Environmental Protection and Packaging Waste Valuation, were presented at a ceremony held in Istanbul. Kaleseramik, a leading company in Turkey's ceramics sector, won an award in the Prevention by Resource Reduction in Packaging Design category with its 'Wood Packaging Materials Savings' project, which was developed by the Granite Factory Packaging and Maintenance Department and the Investments and Projects Department.

Our Goal is to Use Less Energy at Every Step

Kaleseramik General Manager Okan Gedik stated that with environmentally-friendly new solutions, they aim to use less water and less energy at every step from design to production. "As Kaleseramik, which pioneered the establishment of Turkey's ceramics sector, we are aware of our responsibility regarding energy and the environment. With this awareness, we are now adopting a new business model and approaching all our activities with a holistic perspective. With the concept of sustainability, which we place at the centre of this perspective, we aim for resources to be transferred to future generations not diminished, but rather improved," he said.

55 Percent Less Wood Usage, 18 Percent Increase in Transport Capacity

On behalf of Kaleseramik, the award was received by Secondary Production Manager Burak Çakır and Packaging Unit Responsible Resul Şen. Through the project developed under the Kaleseramik umbrella, the design of wooden crate pallets was changed, resulting in 55 percent less wood usage. With the new design, considering that the average growth time of a pine tree is 15 years, wood savings also provide the environment with an average of 978 tons of oxygen annually. Additionally, as a result of transporting an average of 18 percent more products in a single shipment, carbon emissions during transport are reduced.
