Novartis Treats 60 Million Malaria Patients a Year with Malaria Drug Produced in Türkiye

Novartis Outlines Steps Against Disease on World Malaria Day:

Novartis made statements on the occasion of 25 April World Malaria Day. Although it is a preventable and treatable disease, malaria causes the death of one child every two minutes worldwide and is most prevalent in sub-Saharan African countries, which account for 90% of malaria-related deaths. According to the 2017 World Malaria Report, 211 million malaria cases were encountered in 2015, while this number reached 216 million in 2016, and 445,000 people lost their lives due to malaria.   In the fight against malaria, Novartis supports the World Health Organization (WHO) in achieving its goal of reducing child deaths from malaria by 90% by 2030. At the Kurtköy Plant, Novartis's most important antimalarial drug manufacturing facility, drugs produced there treat 60 million people annually worldwide. Under the Malaria Initiative, Novartis's largest global drug access program, the main manufacturing hub for antimalarial drugs, Novartis Kurtköy Plant, is one of 10 centers of excellence globally. Through the drug exported to over 50 African countries where malaria is prevalent, as well as to the rest of the world, Novartis Kurtköy Plant contributes to reducing malaria-related deaths worldwide with an annual treatment capacity of 60 million.
