Şişecam Brings New Energy Glass Lines Online in Tarsus

Şişecam has brought significant additional capacity to Turkey's production strength with a frosted glass furnace and energy glass lines that it commissioned in Tarsus with a EUR 200 million investment. Şişecam, which aims to meet the rising glass demand in the solar energy sector and capitalize on export potential, will provide additional employment to 426 people at this modern facility.

Şişecam, the only global company operating in all basic areas of glass, took an important step in its global growth strategy in energy glass. With the frosted glass furnace and energy glass lines it brought into operation in Tarsus with a total EUR 200 million investment, Şişecam aims to meet the rising glass demand in the solar energy sector, reduce import dependency and increase export potential. Built with modern technology and having an annual production capacity of 47 million square meters, this new line will produce high-quality glass with high transmittance performance for photovoltaic panel manufacturers. The facility, which is planned to commence initial production on 15 October, will also provide additional employment to 426 people.

The beginning of a new era
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Şişecam General Manager Can Yücel said: "The commissioning of our energy glass lines at our Tarsus production complex, which houses our flat glass, coated glass, energy glass and sand preparation facilities, is not only a production startup; it is also strong support for the energy sector in our country's journey towards economic independence, and an important indicator of the strong commitments we have made in terms of sustainability and efficiency. This line, which we plan to commence initial production on 15 October and will provide employment to 426 people, will mark the beginning of a new era in Şişecam's global journey in energy glass with its capacity, technology and location."

Highlighting that the most striking aspect of this investment is the advanced technology systems used in production processes, Yücel said, "Thanks to our high-capacity furnaces, we achieve lower energy consumption, while with automatic conveyor systems and semi-automatic packaging systems, we take digitalization and efficiency to the highest level. Our products, which will supply a wide market ranging from Turkey to Europe and America, will stand out with their properties that increase energy efficiency."
