Şişecam Wins 'Sustainable Business Award' in Innovation Category

Şişecam, one of Turkey's most established organizations, won the "Sustainable Innovation-Product" category award at the Sustainable Business Awards with its "V-Block Anti-Microbial Coated Glass Tableware" products. With its award-winning "Glass Tableware with V-Block Technology Anti-Microbial Coating" products, Şişecam prevents harmful microorganisms from residing and multiplying on glass surfaces. This way, it reduces the risk of virus and bacteria transmission through contact on glass surfaces while ensuring maximum hygiene.

Şişecam advances four projects to final round

Making sustainability the focal point of its operations and a core element of its business model, Şişecam advanced four of its projects to the final round of this year's Sustainable Business Awards, which featured 15 categories, competing with carbon management, sustainable innovation, social impact and sustainability communications projects. Şişecam earned the "Sustainable Innovation-Product" award with its "V-Block Anti-Microbial Coated Glass Tableware" products introduced to consumers under the Paşabahçe brand. At the ceremony held online, the award was received by Şişecam Sustainability Director Bahar Güçlüsoy.

Anti-microbial coating technology providing 24/7 hygiene

Within the framework of its Care For Next Sustainability Strategy, Şişecam prioritizes three main pillars. The company conducts its investment decisions under the strategy framework of "Planet," "Community," and "Life." Approaching all stakeholders with principles of diversity and inclusion while promoting digitalization, Şişecam aims to maintain operations with no adverse impact on climate change. With the responsibility to supply healthy products to many different sectors and using ArTeGe equipment, Şişecam achieved a world first by developing V-Block, an anti-microbial coating technology that provides 24/7 hygiene effective between 90 percent and 99.5 percent against viruses and bacteria. Glass tableware products developed with V-Block Technology reached consumers in a total of 30 countries, including Turkey, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Russia, and Iraq. The pricing of V-Block products was implemented in line with the mission of creating public health benefit rather than profit. This technology, which coats glass surfaces and prevents harmful microorganisms from residing and multiplying on glass surfaces, reduces the risk of virus and bacteria transmission through contact on glass surfaces while ensuring maximum hygiene.

Recognized for Social Impact Award in 2019

The Sustainable Business Awards aim to highlight and share with a broad audience projects that proactively address and manage organizations' economic, environmental, and social impacts and create significant effects; enable these projects to serve as role models to encourage change and accelerate the transition to sustainable business models. The Sustainable Business Awards accept applications from all organizations including large corporations, SMEs, startups, and municipalities, with applications evaluated by a jury consisting of academics and experts qualified in their respective fields. In 2019, Şişecam was also recognized with an award in the "Social Impact" category at the Sustainable Business Awards with its "Glass to Glass" project, one of Turkey's most comprehensive sustainability and social responsibility initiatives.
