Coated glass capacity to nearly double
Şişecam began 2024 with new investment decisions. The company decided to invest in three new coated glass lines with a combined capacity of 20 million square meters in Italy, Turkey and Bulgaria. As part of Şişecam's investments encompassing its float glass plant under construction in Tarsus and float glass plants in Northern Italy and Bulgaria, the company aims to meet the increasing demand for coated glass in the float glass sector, sustain its competitive position through improved operational efficiency and expanded product range, and create added value for all stakeholders by increasing the share of high-value products in production volume.
With the implementation of the new coated lines through USD 114 million in investment, the number of Şişecam's glass coating lines will increase to seven worldwide. As a result of these investments, coated glass capacity will nearly double to reach 42 million square meters.
World's largest capacity glass packaging production facility
Şişecam lit the new glass container furnace and completed cold repair of its glass tableware furnace in Eskişehir during the first quarter of the year, and with these investments, became home to the world's largest integrated glass production complex on a single site. With the glass tableware furnace brought on stream, Şişecam achieved world leadership in this segment. Şişecam's Eskişehir Glass Packaging Plant rose to the position of the world's largest capacity glass packaging production facility on a single site with five furnaces and 24 lines as a result of the new investment. Şişecam also completed new company establishment procedures for the purpose of realizing a second float glass line investment by Saint Gobain Egypt SAE, its partner in Egypt. Additionally, Şişecam decided to implement a 175,000 ton/year heavy soda ash capacity increase investment at its Mersin Soda Ash Plant. The investment, with a total cost including working capital estimated at approximately USD 125.3 million, is planned to be commissioned in 2026.Advertisement
