Protocol Between TİM and THY Brings Discounts on Export Shipping
Under a protocol signed between TİM and THY, Turkish Cargo offered exporters the opportunity to ship their products to 40 cities across 31 countries at discounted prices of up to 30%. During the four months the protocol remained in effect, exports to these locations increased by 23% in tonnage.
The cooperation between the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) and Turkish Airlines (THY) on air cargo transportation had a positive impact on exports. Under the protocol signed between the two institutions, shipments by THY at discounts of up to 30% to these locations resulted in a 23% increase in export tonnage on a tonnage basis.
TİM Chairman Mustafa Gültepe recalled that they are working with the vision of placing Turkey among the top 10 countries in exports. Emphasizing that finding fast and secure logistics services is as important today as production and finding new markets, Gültepe stated: "Air cargo stands out as the ideal option for fast and secure transportation. Turkey's global brand THY has always stood by our exporters on this matter.
We have signed three protocols with THY on cargo transportation. Thanks to these protocols, we have brought distant markets closer with Turkish Cargo, which operates in 132 countries. With the protocol we signed in November 2022, which runs until the end of February, we have gained significant advantages in reaching many markets.
Our exporters shipped their products to 40 cities across 31 countries, including the USA, Germany and India, at discounts of up to 30%. In addition to general cargo, we were able to ship perishable food products such as fruits and vegetables, eggs and fish at reasonable prices and safely. We increased our air exports to the points covered by the protocol by 23% in tonnage compared to the same period of the previous year."
Recalling the Ministry of Trade's 'Distant Countries Strategy', Mustafa Gültepe added that he believes THY will continue to stand by exporters in their goals to increase the average distance of exports.
Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, expressing his views on the success of the export campaign, stated: "As the flag carrier airline, while continuing our valuable cooperation with the Turkish Exporters Assembly, we take justified pride in bringing the work produced by Turkey to all corners of the world.
Through the third protocol we signed with TİM in this regard, we provided special solutions and enabled our country's exporters to use a capacity of approximately 18,000 tons at a discount. With just this protocol alone, exports of high value-added products worth nearly USD 1.8 billion were realized. Compared to exports to the relevant destinations in the same period last year, a 23% increase was achieved in exports during the campaign period.
In this important market with high added value, as the brand with the world's widest flight network, we become an important part of our exporters' logistics solutions; with awareness and motivation of this valuable mission, we continually improve our customer-oriented service quality."
