Turkish Red Crescent's Double Benefit: 4.7 Million Saplings Planted in the Name of 1.5 Million Blood Donors

Under the "Blood for the Patient, Life for the Forest" project carried out in cooperation between the Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, voluntary blood donation is being encouraged while also contributing to Turkey's afforestation efforts. Within the scope of the project, in approximately 6 months, more than 4.7 million saplings were planted in the name of over 1.5 million blood donors.

Under collaboration between Turkish Red Crescent and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the "Blood for Patients, Life for Forests" project encourages voluntary blood donation while contributing to Turkey's afforestation efforts. Within approximately 6 months under the project scope, over 4.7 million saplings were planted in the name of more than 1.5 million blood donors.

The "Blood for Patients, Life for Forests" project, revived last year by Turkish Red Crescent and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, continues to bring social solidarity together with environmental benefit. Under the project scope, three saplings are planted in the name of each donor for every unit of voluntary blood donation made to Turkish Red Crescent.

New Life for Fire-Affected Regions
Between 23 June and 31 December, a total of 4,738,200 saplings were planted in the names of 1,579,400 voluntary blood donors who donated to Turkish Red Crescent.

The saplings were planted in 10 provinces—Balıkesir, Bursa, Çanakkale, Denizli, Mersin, İzmir, Manisa, Muğla, Tekirdağ and Uşak—prioritising areas damaged by forest fires. Thus, the project encouraged life-saving blood donation while contributing to the restoration of natural habitats.

Special Thank You Certificates for Donors
Under the project scope, the General Directorate of Forestry is sending special thank you certificates to voluntary blood donors. Donors are also informed about the saplings planted in their names.

Strong Collaboration Yields Millions of Saplings
Turkish Red Crescent and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry achieved significant success in their previous collaboration during 2014-2019. During that period, a total of 9,744,347 saplings were planted while raising awareness of voluntary blood donation and contributing to Turkey's afforestation efforts.

The "Blood for Patients, Life for Forests" project continues to generate social benefit by bringing voluntary blood donation—which touches human life—together with environmental sustainability.
