Wilo Contributes to Reducing Ecological Footprint

Wilo demonstrates its commitment to people and nature through the Sustainability Strategy it has developed. Under four fundamental strategic action areas classified as water, energy and emissions, materials and waste, employees and company, Wilo's Sustainability Strategy sets 17 strategic objectives aimed at ensuring people have access to clean water, reducing CO2 emissions and raw material consumption, and raising awareness of responsibility among Wilo employees and society. To date, Wilo has undertaken significant work to achieve these targets and has achieved positive results. Wilo continues to provide smart solutions for a world in which energy resources are used intelligently and efficiently.     Mehmet Ürek, General Manager of Wilo Turkey: "According to the results of our sustainability report published in December 2019, as Wilo, we reduce CO2 emissions by 50 million tons with our energy-efficient products and make an important contribution to this area. Energy savings achieved through our high-efficiency pumps are calculated at 1.8 TWh annually, and this savings figure is equivalent to shutting down a medium-sized coal power plant every two years. Wilo feels responsible for sustainability and efficient use of resources, and we contribute through our environmentally friendly solutions that provide optimal energy efficiency in all applications. In this context, in 2019 we implemented 10,000 energy solution projects worldwide in public, commercial and industrial buildings and systems," he said. Ürek continued: "As we have done so far, we will continue on our path with high responsibility for the protection of water and energy resources, which are the foundation of life, with our goal of shaping water and the future. In this context, we are reducing drinking water consumption in Wilo's offices and factories by 20%.

With our solar-powered borehole pumps that are self-sufficient and provide water supply in arid regions not connected to the electrical grid, and our artificial intelligence-powered pumps that are leaders in resource efficiency, among all our innovative products with high technology, we will ensure that more people have easier access to clean water day by day," he said.

Environmentally Friendly Pumps

Stating that Wilo has identified six global mega trends that will deeply affect the lives of all people in the coming years when determining its long-term strategies, Ürek said: "In light of these six mega trends that we have identified as globalization, smart cities, energy issues, climate change, drought and digital transformation, we are working to provide sustainable added value to solving global problems with our high-efficiency technologies. Every year we recycle 30,000 components and products, reduce material consumption in our products by 12 tons annually, and prefer 100% recyclable, environmentally friendly packaging in product packaging. In this context, we are also increasing the recycling rate in Wilo offices and factories by 90%. As a result of all these efforts, we reduce raw material consumption by 250 tons. At our analysis, repair and recycling center in our Dortmund factory, we analyze both newly designed and manufactured products as well as old products in terms of reusability. Based on this, we see that the recycling rate for a Wilo pump is approximately 100%," he said.
