"All people should have the opportunity to live in beautiful, healthy, safe and energy-efficient buildings." Robert Scihmit Hasan İnan Yeter, stressing that this issue requires greater attention especially in a country located in an earthquake zone, continued his remarks: "Throughout history, mankind has built different types of shelters to protect itself from cold, heat and various dangers. From history to the present day, we are constructing multi-storey buildings to create collective living spaces in the modern world. The short-lived and fragile materials used in the past are being replaced by materials that are more durable, longer-lasting and healthier in many respects. Today, advanced product and application standards are used for performance measurement and determination. The use of high-quality, advanced materials manufactured according to standards in buildings is extremely important. Because natural disasters and destructive natural forces (sun, rain, wind, etc.) cause damage to our buildings and building components. Damage occurring in our buildings can reach levels from material losses to loss of life. As Turkey, we have learned many times, most recently in the 1999 earthquake, that we need to construct safe buildings beyond aesthetic considerations, having lost thousands of lives in our structures. With the 17 August earthquake, we changed our building regulations and began to adopt and harmonize European standards related to products used in buildings for use in our country. For these positive works to function properly and for continuity to be maintained, strict supervision must continue to be carried out" he concluded.

Protection and maintenance are as important as solutions and design!

Addressing not only product selection but also application and maintenance, Hasan İnan Yeter stated: "Just as solutions and design are important for building statics, protection and maintenance are also important for enabling the applications performed to be used over their actual lifespan. For example, the corrosion effect, particularly for areas near the sea, is possible not only through contact with active water, but also through the absorption of ions present in the air by concrete. For this reason, external facade thermal insulation systems that wrap the building shell like armor also protect our buildings against corrosion. With two-component water insulation products, leakages in wet areas are kept under control. With high breathability external facade thermal insulation systems and machine-applied renders, healthy and comfortable living spaces free from moisture and mold can be created" he said.
